Should we call this backyard oasis dream come true!?! We’ve been wanting to build a screened porch + deck for a long time, due to pandemic and triangle housing market booming it was hard to find a reliable contractor to do the job, everyone else seemed to just care about getting the job done as fast as they can. Then I found Jim on thumbtack and read all the reviews then contacted him. He was very passionate about building and responded quickly and came with an initial quote. We were pretty picky and had lots of questions about the design we wanted to achieve and Jim was very patient in answering every one of them. He revised the proposal to our liking to every single detail and even happily upgraded the posts from 4X6 to 6X6 per my request at no extra cost. We then requested to do an even bigger porch with an extra door and stairs and his new quote did not scare us away. It is great he also took care of all the permits. Our communication was smooth, work started on time and all his crew members were courteous and organized, they always put their ladders and tools aside together cleanly after finishing so no one stepped on stuff randomly. After a few weeks the finished space looked amazing, and there were a few cosmetic issues I raised to him and his crew took care of them promptly. Jim checked with me every step to make sure I’m happy so everything is now perfection under my super picky eyes. We can finally utilize our backyard space a lot more without being bothered by all the mosquitoes! We are very satisfied to have found Jim, in this busy housing market that one actually cares about quality of work and goes extra miles to make customers happy! Will definitely recommend to anyone looking for carpentry work done!

First off let me say that good help is hard to find. That being said, Jim’s crew with Jim’s Carpentry are AMAZING! Jim has been extremely professional and trustworthy. You can tell he has a passion for what he does and the end product shows. We couldn’t be more excited and thankful for the beautiful deck they built us. 650 sq ft deck. Took them a day and half.

First time using Thumbtack, so I was a bit out of my comfort zone. Lucky I found Jim's Carpentry. Jim responded very quickly, and looked at the job within a couple of days. Work was started immediately, and finished quickly. We expanded the scope of work to include part of a bath renovation: tear out walls and re-build, frame the new shower & tub area, dry wall, and cabinetry re-facing! Amazing! Then, he went to my daughter's house, which needed a lot of work: trim, closets, shelving, replacing a sub-floor in a bathroom remodel, install doors, drywall. Jim is very well organized and super professional and responsive throughout the process. The jobs were well-managed. He and his crew of talented craftsmen do what they agree to, in a fast-paced time frame. Jim goes above and beyond to make sure the job is done to your satisfaction. All of this work was done on both houses in about 2 weeks! Incredible! It was a surprisingly great experience. I will be using his services again for sure! A bonus... if you need more creative carpentry, Jim is your guy. He has a portfolio of beautiful things he has built! Stop looking! You've found the right contractor and craftsman.

Jim was great to work with. He arrived when agreed upon for each step, provided good tracking of the deck project, and was cooperative. He was clearly experienced and offered good advice. He was fair in his pricing. I now have a handsome new deck with a stress free procedure. I have already asked Jim to work on another carpentry project.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I really need to see the project in order to give an exact price. My rate ranges from $20 to $40 per hour depending on the complexity of the work.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to meet with them to see what they are looking to do. Then I give them additional ideas if requested. I alway want to have a clear process of what will be the steps I will follow to completing the work.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have over 30 years experience in construction and have my construction supervisor license.
