I had several things that needed attention and each job was identified, evaluated and done in a quick & efficient manner. I had 3 pros to assist in making my life as a new homeowner a better one. Steve came out and converted my 3 prong washer cord to a 4 prong (or vice versa) and also added a gcfi outlet for my laundry room. Scott & Alex came out and added a gcfi outlet in my kitchen cabinet, installed my over-the-range microwave and changed the range outlet so it would be flush with the wall and I wouldn’t have a 3 inch gap between the wall and the range. All of the pros did an awesome job and I can’t thank Ms Sara enough for creating an awesome team of professionals that knows how to do their jobs. Thank you so much Mr Sparky Electricity for the positive experience!

I was contacted by the owner of the Mister Sparky Greensboro franchise to discuss my experience and the many miscommunications involved. To her credit, she was sensitive to my reviews and offered to refund me fully. I was also impressed that she said her reason for starting the business was to provide people with a better customer experience than those she had experienced previously as a customer. Yet that prompted a lengthy discussion about how my experience deviated from her goals. I am updating the review to provide better info to potential customers. The company advertises a $79 fee. That is for them to make and keep your appointment. An “appearance fee” if you will, which is fine. Their time is valuable and my tech drove 45 minutes from his last job. Most service companies diagnose the problem, figure out what parts need to be used and how long the job will take, provide an estimate, and then let you decide on approving the job, and drop the appearance fee if you move forward with them. Not Mister Sparky. They charge a diagnostic fee, payment up front, before they take a look at your problem. If you agree to that, then the appearance fee is waived. Then after they diagnose the problem, then they give you an estimate on repairing the problem. I strongly expressed my disagreement with this setup. A customer should only be charged more than the appearance fee for work done, and thus the appearance fee should also have some time built in for diagnosing the problem. $400 up front, before even looking at the problem, is egregious. In hiring other electricians in the past, if a problem becomes too difficult to diagnose quickly, the person would then have a discussion about time and labor and how much his continuing pursuit of things would cost. Apparently Mister Sparky’s up front payment is supposed to avoid that discussion? She agreed that based on the size of my job (a single light switch not working) I should have been charged the smallest possible $200 diagnosis fee instead of $400. While that’s a step in the right direction, it still feels wrong to me on principle. Thus the later $120 charge was not for just the switch, but for the labor as well. Again, that was a “miscommunication“ because that again is not what the tech said. I was certainly under the impression that the $400 charge should have been sufficient for the entire job. We covered many other issues and I certainly hope she takes my advice to heart and improves their business practices. She’d be wise to do so if her goal is to improve the customer experience. I wish her luck. I have updated my review from 1-star (terrible) to 2 (below average) due to hassle, the miscommunications, and the fact that I still have to find someone else to fix my light switch.

The goal of the safety inspection is to give you peace of mind that your home is free of any potential safety hazards. If any hazards do come up, our trained technician will go over options on how to address them. At the end of our first meeting, the technician will discuss options to fulfill what is important to you and they will go over the pricing. If you are ready to move forward, we will schedule to have to the work completed as soon as possible.
