I set up movers to take furniture from a third-floor apartment to another on the second floor within the same community. They were responsive and could come at the time I wanted, showing up right on schedule. The guys were friendly and kept in touch, but I had to make sure they stayed on task. I stepped out for a call for about an hour and 15 minutes, and they started packing up stuff from drawers, even though we had agreed to focus only on the heavy items. After a bit, I had to steer them back to what we discussed. It was pretty hot out, so I made sure they had juice and water to stay hydrated. I didn’t mind them taking breaks, but one of the movers seemed to be overdoing it and had to stop a lot. After a while, the owner came over and said they underestimated the job, so they needed to charge me an extra $125 on top of what we originally agreed on, which was a surprise. I’m not one for confrontation, so I just went along with it. Overall, everything was intact and undamaged except for the bottoms of my couch. They had to take off a door to get the couch out, even though they didn’t remove it when bringing it in. My front door plant got totally crushed, and they took out a doorstop, leaving a hole in the wall from the doorknob. So, if you can be firm and keep everyone on track, things might go smoothly. Otherwise, it might be worth spending a bit more for a hassle-free experience. Overall, they were good guys.

Thank you for your feedback, Kayla. I want to clarify a few important points from my side as the service provider. We agreed I would focus on the large furniture items. However, many of the dressers and side tables were filled with personal items, which made them too heavy and unsafe to move as-is. While I mentioned over the phone that wrapping them could be an option, once on-site, I saw it wasn’t possible due to the weight. To ensure safety and avoid damage, I emptied the drawers and transported them separately. The couch was one of the larger pieces I’ve had to move, and getting it out of the apartment was nearly impossible due to the tight angle and hallway layout. I had to remove the door just to get the couch through, which was not something originally included in the job. I also removed the couch legs to make it fit, using my own tools. The $125 adjustment was solely for the unexpected number of stairs—carrying heavy furniture down three stories and back up two stories at the new location. This detail wasn’t disclosed beforehand and significantly increased the labor and time involved. I did not charge for fragile items like mirrors or any other extras. We worked the entire day without taking any lunch breaks—only short pauses to catch our breath after moving extremely heavy pieces up and down multiple flights of stairs. Without that pace, we wouldn’t have been able to complete the move in one day. Lastly, I strive to maintain a professional environment on every job. During the move, I saw you and your brother smoking marijuana on the balcony, and the strong smell carried into the apartment. That created an unprofessional atmosphere—especially considering your role as an HR Manager. I chose not to say anything out of respect, but it did affect the working conditions. I take all feedback seriously and do my best to provide a respectful, hardworking service. —Swai
