Millwork did not respond meaningfully after I shared a competitor’s estimate with the intention of giving them an opportunity to compete on fair and well-informed terms. Instead of presenting a thoughtful counterproposal or explaining what distinguished their craftsmanship, they appeared to simply mirror the competing estimate and resubmit it as their own. There was no clear articulation of unique value, quality, or approach that would have justified further consideration. I responded to raise those concerns, but after several follow-up messages went unanswered, we decided to move forward with a true professional. For the future, I would encourage a more transparent and proactive approach when competing for work. Rather than replicating another contractor’s estimate, it would be far more effective to explain the differences in materials, workmanship, timeline, design insight, warranty, or overall service quality. Even a brief, honest response outlining how their work stands apart would have created a stronger basis for trust and a more credible opportunity to earn the business.
