FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
One day back in the early 60's, my Father brought home a small reel to reel tape recorder from work, used for dictating letters. He foolishly left it out in the living room for a few hours one Saturday where it was immediately discovered by me. I was eight. It had these great punchy buttons, a lighted VU meter with a needle that moved up and down when you spoke into the microphone. You could fast forward, rewind and even change the playback speeds. I was seriously hooked. I've had a thing for recording equipment ever since.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
Most of my work is providing the voice over for TV and Radio commercials, followed by informational bits for telephone systems, menus and the like (IVR), then narrations for marketing and promotional videos.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Find the guy that enjoys his work the most. There are plenty people who do this sort of thing as a job out out of obligation. But how many would continue to play around in the studio, experimenting with new settings, reading styles, post processing effects during their days off? (yes.. it is a bit of an addiction)..
