FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
It isn't that complicated really. If I know the address and what the clients needs as a final work product, I can come up with a fixed fee that is based on my years of experience. I do consider the length of the property lines in figuring the fee, but just as important is the age of the deed, or rather the survey the deed is based on, the terrain, and the overgrowth.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I schedule the work so they can be there when we are finishing up; that way they can be shown their corners and lines.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Every year I have to earn 15 Professional Development hours and submit the information to the Board of Examiners. Subjects range from changes in the law to GPS theory and methodology. I have taken classes in ethics and insurance. I have also taught class to prospective Professional Surveyors preparing to take their State Boards. The rules also allow me to get credit for my serving as vice president of the local Chapter of the North Carolina Society of Surveyors.
