There is a vast amount of information about golf equipment, especially about the club head and the shaft. When a golfer buys their set "off the rack", or has it custom built, the set is typically weighted to a standard swing weight. What I specialize in is taking this standard to a much higher level of precision through a process I term, "Balance Crafting". With this process, I either rebuild the player's set, or build a custom Wishon Golf set to a higher standard of weight distribution and balance. This includes: MOI Matching, Balance Point Ratio Matching, and COG shaft to club head matching. These are the finishing touches that when used together make a set that functions and feels consistant from club to club. What I enjoy most is the joy my clients get when their clubs become more reliable throught the set and seeing their confidence grow in their swing. I also enjoy helping the golfer understand and demystify the golf swing.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My pricing structure is labor based, the average cost of labor per club for me to Balance Craft it (Which includes disassembly, MOI Matching, COG shaft to club head alignment, and Balance Point Ratio Matching) is $30.00 to $40.00. Material cost varies, in most cases, the grip is the only material cost. My fees per club decrease with the amount of clubs worked on at once. My lesson or fitting fee is $60.00 per hour, however if a client commits to a Custom set or Re-crafting their current set, the fitting fee is sometimes waived.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
First, allow me to tell you about myself. I began in the golf club industry straight out of college in 1992. I worked for a company called Swing Sync USA, based in Aberdeen NC. They were one of the first companies to introduce MOI matching of clubs and also were involved in the first investigations into shaft spine aligning. This introduction into club making allowed me to develop a refined sense of precision when it comes to building sets of clubs. After becoming their Production Supervisor for US sales, I decided to expand my knowledge base and went to work for Doug Smith of Match Play of Pinehurst, a Master club maker. He taught me more about the subtleties of club making, in particular he had an intuitive sense of weighting. After learning some of what he understood, I began to investigate what intrigued me most about making clubs. For the next 15 years I investigated and refined my understanding of weight as it pertains to golf clubs individually and throughout the set. Using the knowledge of hundreds of sets of clubs I have built, I refined a process and perspective which is unique in the industry.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I either rebuild their set using Balance Crafting, or I build them a custom set of Wishon Golf component clubs using Balance Crafting. As I work with the client, I help them learn about their swing, set-up, and playing. Many times I will work with them on the golf course in a playing lesson to help refine the make up of their set.
