- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Thumbtack doesn't allow me to break down estimates into labor & materials, which I normally do for customers. I offer detailed quotes to help explain what I am doing for the customer, and its normally estimated by the job and not an hourly rate. My bids are firm unless additional work is requested, and if required it will be communicated beforehand with the customer. I try my best to treat my customers as I would like to be.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Call me old-fashioned, but I still think the best way for me to assess a project, and the best for you as a customer to get an accurate quote, is an on-site estimate. I understand much of the communication these days is done over the internet, but I also can't build your project over the internet, either. I also like to meet with the potential customer just to touch base and make sure we're on the level regarding everything. I've had a wide variety of customers with different needs over the years as each project varies. I'm also pretty flexible with customers regarding schedule.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
The best kind: Over 15 years On-job experience & training received from experienced craftsmen. Started as a construction laborer in high school. 5 years in the U.S. Navy Construction Battalions. Worked as an electrician and form/rough carpenter for several years after returning to civilian life before starting my own company. I received a BS from Creighton University in Emergency Medical Services. Although I am no longer a practicing paramedic, the benefits of a higher education still reap rewards into running a business.
