This company is exceptional. The general contractor Sean is very professional. He goes out of his way to make the customer happy. He is extremely knowledgeable and can guide you in creating a floor plan you'll love. I would highly recommend this company to anyone.May 9, 2017Verified
I had a bunch of contractors give me quotes and I chose Handy and Some (Sean) because I felt he was upfront and honest about what the cost and length of time would be. He was on time and gave me many choices that I could have for my deck. I felt he wasn't trying to sell me on anything. The other contractors, some being more expensive were late to the appointment, couldn't start till next year, didn't give me many options on what type of decking I could have or didn't show up to give me a quote. Sean actually went beyond what we agreed on and with no cost added. Reason being was that he said it would take 2-3 weeks to complete but it actually took almost 3 months to complete. Reason being is that he was having trouble with one of his main workers for the project being on time, sometimes leaving early and taking forever to finish. He eventually fired him. We were understanding about it and we hired him to do work for our basement 6 months later. That project didn't start when he said it would and also he promised it would be done by a certain date and it wasn't. The clean up wasn't great. We did a lot of the clean up ourselves. During the project, it was frustrating that he didn't remember things we discussed doing which he probably would think why it wasn't completed on time. We were tired of the delays as probably he was of us complaining about it. He decided to stop working with us with 90% of the project completed. The 10% he didn't do was adding storm doors and steps to outside. That being said, we were happy with the result of our basement. We love the work he did and the suggestions he gave us but the delays on both of our projects were frustrating. We figured that he would really push to get our project started and finished on time since the deck took 3 months to finish less than a year before. That wasn't the case.Oct 11, 2017Verified
Deck or Porch Remodel or Addition
Working with Sean and his team was a pleasure. We had Hand and Some come out over a year to quote us on this deck renovation. As our priorities shifted we delayed this project. Some contractors would have been upset by that but they weren't. When we picked up the project this year they were very responsive and got us on the schedule. We are so happy with the finished product. Peter even went out of his way to clean up a nit picky item that I would have been fine living with. We will definitely hire them again.Oct 31, 2018VerifiedHandy and Some llc's reply
Thanks for the business and the nice review. We enjoyed working for you and looking forward to your next project. Sean
Sean and his team were very effective in accomlishing a bathroom, bedroom and kitchen remodel. They addressed a number of challenges on both the interior and exterior of the home and coordinated all the permitting. Sean was terrific on communication and the project completed per the cost estimate. It can be hard to find a reliable contractor but Handy and Some LLC is one of them.Dec 11, 2016Verified
I'm a 17 year veteran of the United States Army. I am very particular about how and when I want things done. With that knowledge, I was very hesitant to hire a contractor to update my kitchen but with my busy schedule, I had no choice. Sean and his company is as military as they get. His level of professionalism is unlike anything I have EVER seen outside of the military. His knowhow, attention to detail and willingness to walk my family and I through the project step by painless step has made this project the best thing that has happened to us. What started as a kitchen update quickly turned into multiple other projects because of his proficiency and ability to work with our budget. NO CHEAP materials were used and he offered multiple choices to go with. I HIGHLY recommend Sean and his team.Feb 14, 2017Verified

- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)? For smaller jobs which would be most that take between 1-5 days to complete, we charge a flat rate of $70 per hour per man. This would cover most of the services we provide. If a sub is required, we charge more depending on that particular trade. Those rates are posted on our web site. There are some other charges which we are upfront with such as administrative time for planning and obtaining permits when needed. Drawing time for some projects which require detailed plans. Debris removal if a job has a significant about which needs to be hauled away. And of course materials, which we do add a percentage to cost but in most cases, we buy less than the average homeowner so the end cost usually retail pricing.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?Typically, I ask the customer some key questions prior to meeting in order to be fully prepared during a project site visit. Once meeting the customer in person viewing and discussing the project, I will send a written estimate which will include all materials and labor. It will also include allowances for fixtures, if relevant, so a customer knows the total cost of the project. For smaller projects we charge a flat competitive hourly rate, plus material costs. We do not require a contract and we do not require a deposit unless there are special order materials involved or the initial materials need to start are more than $500. At the end of each day, we provide an invoice for the actual hours worked and the materials provided and installed. You only pay for what service you have received. On larger projects, we help the customer come up with a budget which fits their needs and wallet. From there we invoice out weekly for labor and materials for that past week. The customer is always in a position where if they are not satisfied, they can end the project with minimal risk.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have been in the construction field for over 25 years. I have had my MA supervisors license for 20 years. I am required to complete 12 hours of continuing education each year to refresh myself on the international building codes. I also am proficient in AutoCAD, Chief Architect and other architectural software which aids in the planning, communication, visualization, and completion of the project. All of my crew are skilled experienced professionals and my subs are licensed, insured and most of all dependable.
