About
My art is my life. I've been drawing professionally for over 25 years, doing Caricatures and Portraits in theme parks, zoos and aquariums throughout the country and private commissions as well. I have a skill set that can be used for live event entertainment, like Caricatures at a celebration or to create treasured moment in time with a Detailed Portrait sketch. My husband Dan and I work in tandem with each other and can bring multiple artists to events if needed. Contact me and we can discuss the type of art that would suit your needs. You can also view Dan Atherton's profile for more info on our Caricature events. Please contact one Atherton if interested as we get double charged for multiple inquiries.

Kathy was amazing! She worked our wedding for 3 hours! She worked during cocktail hour through some of the reception time and it worked out great! The work she did was great and all the guest who got their drawing done loved it! They looked just like how they really looked with a little bit of goofiness. Kathy was very friendly and easy to talk to. She was also prompts and fast! Definitely recommend.

I contacted Kathy at Atherton Arts about a special piece that I wanted produced for a reunion of old friends at my home. It was a tall order, incorporating 19 different caricatures into one group arrangement, but Kathy was more than up to the challenge. The final piece was amazing! And she helped me to produce copies for each of my guests. Each received her masterpiece and had fun picking themselves out of the ensemble. It was the hit of the party! Thank you thank you Kathy for your time and talent! I am happy to recommend your amazing work to anyone who needs a reference! Sincerely, Jen Moyer

Kathy of Atherton Arts did a brown chalk for my SIL. It has her two current Tonkinese cats and one that had passed. Cousin Emma to my cat Petey. Needless to say, SIL and hubby were taken back with heartfelt emotions and so in love with the picture. Her work looked so lifelike. Ty so much Kathy. Hugs

Kathy was great start to finish. I had a vision of what I wanted for years and couldn't find the right person. Not only did she capture my vision, but she did it with such quality and skill! I'm going to use her services again someday. Thank you, Kathy!

Kathy’s talent is remarkable. I asked if she could create a portrait of my son and daughter-in-law from a wedding picture. It was unbelievable how intricate the details were and how precise the sketch was in comparison to the photo. It was absolutely beautiful.

FAQs
What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Event hourly pricing is per artist per hour (when hourly is indicated). at caricature events we can draw a black and white face in 3 minutes and a color face in about 6 minutes. Black and white faces are the quickest way to accommodate a large crowd. Side view pastel portraits can be done in about 5-6 minutes a face and are in color as well.
If it is a single drawing, price indicated is for the drawing itself.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been drawing caricatures and portraits professionally for over 20 years, in Theme parks, zoos and aquariums throughout the country. I have trained countless artists in this field and have drawn people from all over the world.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I've always been able to draw and when I was hired as a Caricature and portrait artist at a Theme Park in San Antonio, Tx , they trained me how to break down the drawing and do it quickly. I've been doing it ever since.
