Introduction: The mission of Academic Tutoring for Success is to offer assistance to students or adults who need help in understanding various academic concepts. I offer tutoring, teaching and/or review of math concepts for students at the middle school, high school or college level for those who are taking math courses or are working toward their GED or need review in order to enter into various college level math courses. I also tutor students in the writing process and offer editing services. In addition, I am available to work with ESOL students/adults who need to further develop their ability to communicate in English. I also have experience in working with students who have learning disabilities and therefore may need to learn different methods of approaching academic material. I also have developed a curriculum for training peer tutors at the college/high school level based on CRLA standards. I am available to teach a course that offers professional strategies to utilize in tutoring others, perfect for schools who would like to utilize their students for peer tutoring. I am able to tutor at your home or other public facility such as a local library or coffee shop. I am rather flexible in trying to accommodate the schedules of clients and typically work Monday through Saturday. Students enjoy working with me for many reasons. First, because I am knowledgeable about the subject areas in which I tutor; I am a licensed math teacher at the middle and high school levels who is certified as highly qualified by the State of NH. I am also level 3 CRLA certified as a tutor. This demonstrates that I have been trained to tutor students using various strategies based on the latest research involving how individuals learn. This allows me to utilize practices that promote greater levels of academic success. Students also indicate that I am very easy to work with. Students need someone who is not intimidating so that they can feel comfortable in asking questions. I listen carefully to my clients to access and determine their level of understanding and to discover their difficulties. We then work together so that they can develop a level of understanding which allows them to reach the ultimate goal of being able to complete their work independently. I enjoy being able to share in my students' successes.
