FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Each writing or editing project is unique and estimating price depends upon: - The amount of background work required of me before I begin writing (or editing) - Whether all information will be provided or I need to do research - The number of interviews required (typically I get background from client first, then interview their customer(s), i.e., if Im developing a case study, or award nomination, I interview my client for background details first, then speak with stakeholders to uncover noteworthy details - The number of stakeholders I will be working with on a particular project, such as updating marketing collateral - What stage of the project I am engaged, i.e., if I'm editing and proofing content for an updated website, it depends upon whether I am involved in early, mid. or late stages prior to going live
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
First, I want to learn all about your project, and your goals for the finished product: What is your deadline? Who is your audience? What do you want to say, and why? How and why will this content matter to your audience? What benefits will the audience gain by reading your content (learn something new, make a decision, take action)? Are there branding issues or competitive advantages involved? How will this content be disseminated i.e., web content, blog, press release, newsletter, book, magazine or newspaper article, White Paper, email, snail mail, speech, trade show / sales handout, training manual, etc. Can you provide me with all of the necessary information, or will this project include interviewing employees, business partners, customers, experts, or conducting other research? Once I understand the nature and scope of your project, I can provide you with a step-by-step game plan and price.
