We had several small semi-interconnected projects we needed done around the house. Matt had done some other small projects for us over the years and had always done a great job so we called him to see if he could take care of everything we had in mind. On a personal level, Matt is an easy-going guy, but professionally, he is a perfectionist and does not and will not do something halfway or cut corners. He does it well and he does it right the first time. He did an amazing job on our floors and our staircase. He even custom-built our newel posts for us for literally hundreds of dollars less than it would have cost us to buy them. The transition between our kitchen and dining room is a little funky which made it difficult as far as where to end the tile/start the hardwood. Matt came up with an aesthetically-pleasing way to do it that required multiple angular cuts of the tile, and cutting the hardwood at a complementary angle. It definitely was not the easiest way to do it, but it looks great and was the perfect solution. For our master bath and closet remodel, Matt sat down with us to make sure that our ideas made sense from a construction (and building code!) point of view. We moved the closet entrance from the bedroom to the bathroom and looking at it now, you can't see where the old closet entrance was patched over. It looks like the wall was always solid all the way across. The windows that had been in the bathroom previously were too large and low for a bathroom. Matt took them out and put in more-bathroom-appropriate windows--one in the water closet, the other in the shower. The shower...the shower looks fantastic. We threw a lot of things at him with the shower--a bench, a cubby shelf, a window, the shower handle on a different wall than the shower head. He took it all in stride and did a great job with all of it. Initially, the plumber was very resistant and didn't want to deal with running the pipes over to the other wall for the shower handle, and Matt got him to do it. Everyone we've shown the bathroom and closet to have been amazed at how well it all turned out and have commented on what a good job he did. The windows in the master bedroom were configured in a weird way. He took out and patched over one long-skinny horizontal window and put two regular double-hung windows in instead. Again, you can't tell that the wall was patched at all and the windows look like they've always been there. Throughout the project, we kept coming up with other "little things" we wanted to do. In some cases, Matt told us he could do it, but we could save a lot of money doing it ourselves. For example, he got us started with putting in some built-in shelving and then helped with cutting and installing the crown molding around them afterwards. I really can't say enough about how great a job Matt did and how happy we were with the end result. He always showed up when he said he would. He cleaned up after himself every day, so even when our house was in chaos from moving furniture from room to room, we never had to worry about the kids getting into construction debris or stepping on a staple or nail. You can tell that he takes a lot of pride in his work and has an excellent work ethic. He's personable and always answered our questions in an honest and matter-of-fact way. He saved us money when he could, but didn't sacrifice quality in order to save a few bucks here and there. I can't recommend him enough. A++ work.

Our home was in desperate need of a bathroom makeover when I first contacted Matt Clarke for an estimate (new tub/shower with tiling, new fixtures, new floor, linen closet and towel hooks). From the very beginning, he was professional, thorough and prompt with his questions and his work estimate. We decided to accept his estimate after shopping around, and I'm so glad we did! Matt was a real pleasure to work with. He provided an "allowance" for materials so we could shop for the tile and flooring, and shared our ideas about what we would like to see done with the space and what kind of fixtures we wanted to have installed. Every day, Matt showed up in a timely manner, would lay down drop cloths to catch any clutter, and vacuumed up behind himself before leaving. We hardly even heard him in our home while he was doing demo and work! I would highly recommend his services for whatever project you have in mind for your home. Our bathroom looks great, and we're so pleased with his work. We're hoping to have him back next year to finish off our basement!
