FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
In a nutshell: honest pay for honest work. Many projects are performed on a transparent at-cost-plus basis with flat contracting and labor rates, with materials and subcontractors invoiced to the client at cost. Artisan and repair work are typically hourly. If the project allows, we can work with a fixed project price.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We use a consultative, education based approach. Clients seeking a new house, addition, or whole-house rebuild, for example, are required to read two books: The Pretty Good House, and Musings of an Energy Nerd. It's important to understand what we do, to get on the same page, and compare apples to apples against other builders. We're good with planning and zoning issues, and can take a project from the design phase through to CO. But, we'll take on smaller projects too- like a deck or kitchen remodel.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
With over 24 years of hands-on project management experience, our owner is a traditional New England craftsman. He is one of a small few active Certified Passive House Tradespersons in the area, and geeks out on building science, staying current through various symposiums, discussions, publications, and other resources, not to mention a lot of trial and error over the years.
