Joseph is super nice. Worked miracles for my daughter. She pulled her grade up from an F to a B in a short time. I am definitely keeping him on my contact list for my other children. I would recommend him to anyone who is struggling.Mar 20, 2017Verified
We hired Mr. Joseph Hammerman to help my daughter with her final preparation for SAT II Math 2 test. It was a terrible experience. First, he was late when he came to the session at our home. During the session, not only did Mr. Hammerman ignore the specific questions that my daughter had, but his teaching style was also very condescending and disrespectful. My daughter had been practicing for the test and all she needed was clarification on specific topics. Mr. Hammerman could not meet her needs--only kept repeating some basic concepts. The session went for just over half an hour but I still paid him the full hour rate of $50. However, what happened next was really disturbing. As he walked out, Mr. Hammerman became extremely agitated and started giving racial slurs and cursing. I hope that the other reviews were true (that was the main reason why I chose Mr. Hammerman), but our experience was completely different and Mr. Hammerman's behavior was totally unacceptable and unprofessional. This was a problem with a client who ended a first lesson early and was rude and disrespectful, and has chosen to write a review. Mr. J indicates that he hired me for my excellent references. I have multiple references indicating I helped students get A's in honors high school math and helped them get 780-800 on their math SAT Is. Most students I work with who are in danger of failing improve to A's or B's. I was hired to tutor this student for the Math Level 2 SAT 2. Over the phone, the father told me she was an honors student and had been valedictorian or her middle school. Her questions were very basic and she was not initially understanding some of my explanations. After 30 minutes, she got up and talked to her father. The father came back and told me that she was an advanced student and needed advanced explanations. I replied that everyone I tutored for the math SAT 2 was an advanced student. However, if she didn't understand the initial explanation, I would give her simpler not more advanced explanations. Mr. J ended what had been scheduled as a 2 hour lesson after 30 minutes and paid me for 1 hour. I was taken aback, as I pride myself in the quality of my work and had never had anyone end a lesson early and express dissatisfaction. I am a Johns Hopkins graduate with good manners, never make racial slurs or curse, and I am offended by the false accusations.
