Awarded Thumbtack's "Best Of 2015 and 2016." 5 Star Rated on Wyzant. Selected by Wyzant as a "Best Practices" consultant. 99% 5 Star Reviews on Thumbtack and Wyzant. 100% 4 or 5 Star Reviews on Thumbtack and Wyzant. Trained by one of New England's premiere college prep companies. 99th percentile scorer on SAT, ACT, GRE and GMAT. I've worked as a tutor in some capacity for nearly 14 years. What started as community service in college grew into a part-time job and has culminated in a career. I'm extremely passionate about what I do and obsessed with getting results. My goal is simple: provide my students with the most effective and efficient prep for their tests. In addition to tutoring, I dedicate at least 5 hours everyday to creating study guides that will crack these tests. Through the years, my students have shown significant and in some cases life changing improvements. Additionally, I enjoy an excellent rapport with my students which makes my sessions much easier on the student than sessions with tutors who don't relate well with their students. An engaged, interested student is far more productive than one counting the seconds until they're free from tutoring. Standardized tests are eminently beatable. There are vast free resources available online to help students learn, practice and ultimately master their tests. However, it's extremely difficult and time consuming to winnow the valuable material from the information that's useless. From high school students preparing for the SAT to high powered executives preparing for the GMAT, one thing is certain: you have better things to do than waste your time preparing in an inefficient manner. As a professional tutor, I've spent countless hours developing practice materials that effectively hone in on key areas. It's essential for students to work on problems that illustrate key points and that's exactly what I've developed. Large test prep companies have what economists refer to as a "principal-agent problem." If you enroll in a prep course or private tutoring with a large test prep company, your money doesn't go directly to the tutor you work with. In fact, most tutors receive about 25% of what you pay the company. For instance, many large NYC prep companies charge $160/hour and pay their tutors $40. The rest goes to overhead and profits for the owners. When you pay $160/hour, you expect $160 worth of effort from the tutor. However, the tutor doesn't have the incentive to provide you with this effort level. Your success or failure has little bearing on their pay. As a sole proprietor, you deal directly with me. You're free to call, text or email me anytime night or day (good luck getting ahold of a tutor at a large test prep company). Additionally, I constantly think of how to help my students. I'm adept at creating problem sets that allow my students to practice in a way that approximates what they'll see on the test. For students taking the "new" SAT, having access to a bank of questions separate from official practice tests is essential. Fundamentally, I enjoy helping people. I love hearing from students who surpassed their own expectations. Last year, I had a student who improved by more than 500 points on the SAT. Her objective was to achieve a score consistent with the median score of students admitted to her dream school. After working together, her SAT score was significantly above the 75th percentile at this school. Suddenly, a reach became a safety and she had to reevaluate her choices. Ultimately, she was admitted to an Ivy League school that she never dreamed of considering.

I tutored with Ben for 6 weeks for the Quantitative Reasoning section of the GRE and he's great. With his help, I was able to increase my Quant score by 6 points. I had taken the test twice before and gotten the same score both times, and wasn't clear on what I was continually doing wrong. Ben helped me to look at the material in a less daunting way and I developed strategies for completing the test in a much more effective way. I only wish I had found him sooner! I definitely recommend Ben.

Ben is amazing. He tutored me over the summer for a Mathematical Application class I had to take before going to UCLA Anderson... his teaching technique makes the information easily digestible (and fun). Aside from his intellect, he's just a good guy. Very responsive, flexible with times, and encouraging. You won't be disappointed.
