JOYCE SIMPSON recently returned to the Philadelphia/South Jersey area after 11 years in Las Vegas where her 3-octave voice could be heard through music lyrics and on commercial radio. Upon arriving to Las Vegas, Joyce made inroads with some of the local jazz legends and was once the vocalist with The Las Vegas All-Stars under the directorship of composer, arranger, and trombonist Al Imbach. She also performed with the Jimmy Hemming Orchestra in Las Vegas, The Jim Fitzgerald Big Band in Monterey, California and The Paul McDonald Big Band in Westminster, CA. Las Vegas performance venues have included JUST JAZZ, The Hit Parade at The Suncoast Casino, The Italian American Club, Montelago Village at Lake Las Vegas and guest appearances with NRQ (New Rhythm Quartet) at Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurants.
Joyce also lived in Durango, CO where she was the vocalist with the “J.S. Trio” which featured saxophonist/flutist Jeff Solon and pianist Jeff Sweet. In 2008 the group recorded their “J.S. Trio” CD, a collection of classic jazz standards. She also performed regularly with pianist Gary Walker at the Mahogany Grille in the Strater Hotel.
Joyce’s onstage persona is often compared to vintage Sarah, Dinah and Nancy. An accomplished musician who also plays the flute and piano, Joyce has appeared at numerous clubs worldwide including The Baked Potato in Pasadena, CA, a special guest performance at JJ’s in Hong Kong, and appearances with The Arpeggio Jazz Ensemble at Philadelphia’s famed Zanzibar Blue Restaurant. While in Philadelphia, she also sang the national anthem at the NBA 76ers games and spent a brief period doing musical theater. She won third place in Billboard Magazine’s National Songwriters Contest for her song “If By Chance”.
Joyce regularly travels between east and west coasts with her special mix of “sweet and sultry”, delivering it just the way we know you’ll like it!
