We hired Nick to DJ an event we had in New Haven, CT and he was great! He arrived early and was completely set up at least 30 minutes before the event started - which was greatly appreciated! He even brought his own DJ booth and lights. I should have given him more of a heads up on the type of music we wanted, but once I gave him a few examples of some bands to play he did a great job keeping it up. He also did a wonderful job making announcements throughout the event to keep the attendees in the loop. In our original agreement Nick said he would bring a photographer and would leave us with a thumb drive of all the pictures. We thought this offer was ABOVE and BEYOND so knew he would be great to work with. Unfortunately the photographer wasn't at the event, but Nick did have a nice camera that we were able to take photos with. I'm waiting for Nick to mail me those photos on a thumb drive and as long as I get those soon I am comfortable leaving a 5 star review! Nick was a great guy so I know they will be in the mail any day now. And as an added bonus: he sings! If you're event go-ers are into Frank Sinatra, make sure to let Nick know and he'll put on a show. ;-)
We just wanted to say that we cannot thank Scott enough!!!! He and the band went above and beyond in not only taking on the task of learning new songs, but you sounded astounding. Any time that someone said "what a beautiful wedding" it was IMMEDIATELY followed by "and this band is AMAZING! How did you find someone so great?!" We were so thrilled. There could not have been a better way to seal the deal of an old school wedding vibe, and everyone from young to old said that it was all the band who made our vision complete. They played live music for the entire wedding, and although I was hidden for the beginning of the ceremony, as soon as we emerged after cocktail hour it was one of the first things that everyone said. Plus their rendition of La Vie En Rose was one of the most beautiful I've ever heard. We really cannot thank then enough and just want to express our gratitude for their talent, responsiveness, and overall absolute kindness. Sincerely, The Newlyweds
Working with Sweet Harmony was fantastic, every step of the way. I worked with Tara, the owner as well as one of the musicians on the day. We had a keyboardist and violinist for the ceremony and a keyboardist and saxophone player for the cocktail hour. We were able to choose all of the songs we wanted for the ceremony, including a special request to play during a break. Tara helped me select pieces that would work well together while making sure to find the perfect place for the wide range of songs we wanted included. (Fields of Gold - check, Ave Maria - check!) It really elevated the ceremony and we're so lucky to have had them! Unfortunately, I didn't get to hear the sax & keyboard during cocktail hour, and from what I heard, I missed quite a performance! Friends could not stop talking about it, and even mentioned that they stayed close to the music so that they wouldn't miss any songs! I can't recommend Sweet Harmony highly enough! Even if you are not sure if you "need" live music, I'd suggest that you look into them. Tara is happy to work with you on your needs and I think you'll be convinced it's worth it!
Ivan was fantastic. Responsive, professional, and amazing talent to perform the songs you want. He even let us borrow a mic for the ceremony!
The Al Louis Band with Al Louis Entertainment did a fantastic job at our wedding. We added the DJ package to the live band and it was truly a seamless night of great music! A++++! Thank you Al for making it a night to remember! Drew and Kris
I've played with Jimi since the first time I picked up the instrument (bass for 11 years). Lessons with him enabled me to play in big bands and small ensembles at the college level, as well as have a steady stream of gigs when I was in school. His method of teaching is sadly growing rarer and rarer in private lesson study. Rather than mandate to the student rote musical examples which are a.) boring and b.) relate nothing about learning actual music, Jimi's approach is a holistic one that has faith in pupil's drive and intelligence. He demonstrates aspects of music theory fundamentals, and then has the student utilize the formulas he has imparted to extrapolate the rest, with his guidance of course. If the student has trouble, Jimi instructs to fill in the gaps but never spoon feeds. This method insures the student actually learns and internalizes the information, rather than becomes an automaton. Moreover, Jimi encourages the students to bring in pieces that they actually like to play! So instead of spending months hammering out a highly diluted version of a Bach morning song, the student can bring in pieces by Zep, the Strokes, the Black Keys, Rihanna, whatever! Jimi then instructs through elucidating the music theory fundamentals within the songs that drew the student to the instrument in the first place! Jimi is professional, yet laid back. I have continued my friendship with him after studying and going on to professional life. He's just a good dude to know. Lastly, and this should be the last thing you consider. Jimi's rates are always reasonable. For private study in college, I paid 3-4 times as much for a lesson as what I paid when taking a lesson with Jimi. I hope you Long Islander aspiring musicians realize what a gem you have there.
Sean and his band provided ideal lively jazz music at a local event. They were super easy to communicate with beforehand, and they played beautifully to a large very appreciative crowd. I strongly recommend them.
We strongly recommend the string quartet from Consonance Music. Vasiliy and the string quartet performed the ceremony music for our wedding. Leading up the the event, they were very organized and always promptly replied to our questions or concerns. They supplied a helpful form for us to provide our music selections (for pre-ceremony, processional, etc.). They have a large repertoire including many classical and contemporary string arrangements, and even prepared a custom arrangement ("Melissa" by the Allman Brothers Band) for our ceremony. Their pricing was fair and their musicianship was excellent. We received many compliments on the music at the wedding. With the cost of planning a wedding, we were unsure that we could include live music in our budget. But looking back, it was one of the best choices we made and can honestly say it transformed our ceremony.
I briefly took guitar lessons from Josh. I wanted to learn to play with other musicians and improvise, and his jazz background is what caught my attention. The sessions were informative and Josh was very encouraging. I had to stop unexpectedly but what I learned in the few lessons I took was very helpful and got me out of the rut I fall into while practicing on my own.
Soulful Sounds were the perfect choice for our son's graduation party! It was an amazing night with thunderstorms, rainbow & music ! They played to a large gathering of over a 100 people. A very professional band who adjusted to the situation and played remarkably. Highly recommend!
I have been studying with Brittany for several years, and have learned so much. We started with improvisational jazz, then moved on to transcription, and eventually I started writing my own music using the knowledge she taught me. I had only been playing a few years, off and on, and really felt progression. She has accompanied me with piano, bass, vibraphone, and I believe even a flute once. She is quite talented and can play many instruments. I have also seen her live shows, and they are really good. Her Portishead tributes are really impressive and should be seen. It is great to see your teacher actively participating in the NYC music scene. I would recommend Brittany students of all ages. From piano, to voice, classical to jazz, I am certain she can make you a better player.
Aodhan (Aidan) is exceptional in his perception of where you stand as a guitarist and who you are as a person. He is incredibly talented himself as a guitarist but never uses that against you. Instead he is able to draw from his own talents to understand where you are as a guitarist and help you achieve your own goals, but even better, help you to realize that you have more to offer than you realize. He will give you personalized lessons that apply to you and your own level. He has the ability to apply pertinent lessons to the very beginner, with enthusiastic encouragement, and also be able to help someone who's got the basics, truly apply that towards a deeper understanding of what they are actually doing on guitar. I have taken lessons from other guitarists, who simply don't take the time to understand where you are in your skills, and just want to fill the time with talk and misdirection. Aodhan, isn't concerned with that nonsense, he is interested in making you better at the guitar and understanding what your abilities are on this instrument. I've gone from simple chord progressions and simple strumming to more complicated and off beat strumming under the direction of Aodhan. He really is very good at contouring a lesson based on your very own level and goals, but also lets you know a little bit more of what your capable of that you might not realize yet. I highly recommend him as a teacher, but you will also find him to be a friend as well. You will also benefit form going to hear him in action as he plays with several bands throughout NYC. I have been with him for a few months now and have been truly motivated to keep honing my skills on the guitar. I appreciate his respect in that and ability to keep me wanting more of myself.
Mark Weisman has been my son's piano teacher since he was 11 years old. Alex is now a proficient pianist at age 21. Under the tutelage of Mark, my son advanced from a music student to a true musician. Mark is an engaging teacher who introduces his students to a variety of music genres, keeping classical, standards and popular music all part of the student's repertoire. My son Alex's interest in music was spurred on by Mark's enthusiasm and style of teaching. The Music Workshop conducts annual performances for parents and friends so we can see the progress our children have made. My son is now in college and still studies with Mark on breaks and in the summer. Alex belongs to The Jazz Band at Loyola University as well as his own band. He has played professionally for cocktail hours and theater productions. Mark has inspired Alex to continue his music into his adulthood. Mark Weisman is an exemplary teacher and person.
I follow Nico's gigs as regularly as possible and have been doing so ever since her fledgling days as a singer song-writer. I love her original music as it has captivating melodies and heartfelt lyrics . She is quite tenacious in getting herself "out there" and in so doing, she leaves me breathless with all the things she does to promote her talents at any one time. I like to go with friends to hang out at her various gigs and be entertained by her while casually enjoying good food rather than a cover band with very loud music. Nico is a very talented singer and musician who plays different instruments equally well.
My daugher took piano lessons from Gab Kallay before moving to Germany and really enjoyed taking lessons from her. Gab was very patient but also extremely thorough with the lessons. In Germany my daughter later joined the school band and continues to play.
Chanan was a joy to work with! Knowledgeable and skilled and very creative. He helped produce a record of sacred music for me and also provided back up guitar for my band when needed a few times in Dallas. He is an exceptional engineer and guitar player with a fine ear for detail.
Thank you, Jonathan to you and your guys for playing such a good music with exceptional quality. All guests (young and older ones) gave me very good comments about the performance. We all enjoyed the selection of songs, the quality of play as well as the fact that all guests could sing and play together with the band. Also, appreciate your guys help with the little hiccup on the event schedule we had and adjusting yourself to our needs! Thank you again for the unforgettable night!
I have performed with David in a bigband setting and in a small group at my church. He is always punctual, professional and prepared. You will find David to be quiet, modest and very caring. It is impossible to ignore the joy evident in his performances. he brings this passion to his teaching. I would recommend him very highly as a performer and as a teacher. I have heard some of his students. They perform very well when considering their age and length of study. Developing confidence in performance is a priority for David.
A true professional!!!! I am an event planner and about 5 months ago I found myself in a difficult position with a last minute cancellation by a scheduled entertainer for a wedding. That exact day the piano teacher came by to give piano lessons to our boys. While Hank was giving me feed back on the kids' progress, he sensed that I was stressed. As I explained my plight, this guy rose to the occasion. immediately! Two weddings and one 50th wedding anniversary later, Hank Machuga remains on my list of service providers. Great to work with, flexible, an all-around good person and someone who knows his craft. Thank you!!!!!! Joseph Coston Weddings & Events
Mike plays drums in my band. He is friendly, flexible, professional, always prepared, and talented. He is a pleasure to work with, and a hard working gentleman.
Helene was my piano teacher from kindergarten through high school. She taught me how to read, understand, play and love music. Furthermore, my early -and in-depth- start with piano prepared me for years of trumpet in various advanced bands. Although I am not currently taking lessons, I still sit down to play piano whenever I get the chance. I'll play anything from Bach to Beethoven to Josh Groban to new and classic Disney - really anything I'm in the mood for. Helene's teaching has made me proficient enough in piano and music in general such that I can truly enjoy playing. Thanks Helene!!
