FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I do a lot of research before I offer pricing. My pricing is based heavily on industry standards. I tend to find a range usually - where other handymen and contractors have done work similar to mine and I research their pricing and practices. I tend to fall right in the middle of the range not on the high end and not on the low end, but I always offer excellent work, service, and punctuality so that you can expect to definitely get what your money's worth.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Typically after you've contacted me on thumbtack you'll hear from me within a few hours. I'm going to want to speak with you pretty soon, so if not that day then early the next day so that we can discuss the project. sometimes I'll need to come to your house to check out the project and learn more about all of the details and potential pitfalls. This consultation is always free, I never ever charge for a site visit. Once I wrap my head around the project, I'll be asking you for your email address. This is so that I can create and send you a proper estimate so that you can see the breakdown in my costs, labor and whatever materials I might need to purchase. After you review that estimate I'll be asking you to make a 50% deposit. That is so that I can purchase any materials and equipment that I need in order to do your job. I accept all forms of payment. Once the deposit is secured and all the terms of the job are confirmed I'm going to be at your property at the scheduled time. I can be pretty flexible with scheduling too. While my preference is to work between 9:00 and 6:00 Monday through Friday you may not be available during that time. But not to worry I'm also comfortable working weekends, if that's what you need. Once the job is done I'll ask you to take a look at it. Sit with it, live with it, let it exist in your space for a while. I want you to be super satisfied so if something doesn't seem right or it doesn't feel quite like you were hoping it would, I need you to let me know. I guarantee my work, so if I need to come back and make it right for you I absolutely will. But if you love what I've done, then and only then have I done my job. It's an honor for me to be chosen to work in your personal space and I hope that you will invite me back to work again.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
As a handyman my education has been very interdisciplinary. It started when I was very young...I had a penchant for taking things apart and, much to my parents' chagrin, learning how to put them back together by trial and error of course. Before I incorporated into my own company I worked as an apprentice with several handymen and contractors in my area for additional pocket money. I learned how to avoid a lot of basic pitfalls and bad habits. I developed some good working techniques while getting my feet wet working in other people's space. As I mentioned before I had a professional history in real estate and also hospitality and so I developed a sense of customer service and it focused my goal of satisfying the customer. I really think I've come to understand what people expect and what they don't expect especially - and that's where I can surprise you!
