I have been working with Mary Jane since i purchased my house (about 8 years ago). She has great ideas and does immaculate work. She has selected colors and painted every interior wall of my home. She has arranged urniture that I owned and assisted with the purchase of furniture and accessories where needed. Anyone who walks into my home comments on how beautiful it is. The most recent project was the master bedroom. Call her today for a consultation. She really is great.Jan 12, 2015
We met Mary Jane when trying to select colors to repaint our condominium at the Jersey Shore. After getting to know our family she prescribed the colors and also critical furniture details (like the color our slip covered furniture should be). When we sold it 5 out of 7 realtors that walked through the property sited "the colors" as the best feature of the property. It was "beachy" but very relaxing and sophisticated. We recently purchased a home in the same town and she has brought her skills to advise on color schemes including paint, furniture, lighting, fan choices and furniture placement. We have also used her skills in specialized painting situations (refinished an old brick fireplace a wooden wall, and floor refinishing). Mary Jane is very responsive, available to discuss and collaborate on ideas, not offended when we say no, and reasonably priced. Finally, we asked her to help our three children (4,6 and 8 at the time) create some art. She brought all of her professional tools and paints and helped each child through the creative process to create something special for their mother's birthday. - That's versatile. If your like us and have an appreciation for a well designed home Mary Jane is the person for you.Jan 3, 2015
MJ redid our main staircase including the millwork and she did an excellent job. She coordinated the finish with our flooring and furniture. The coloring and faux graining was professional. She was meticulous in her approach. MJ also helped us with furniture placement and we incorporated almost all of her suggestions. We were delighted in the outcome of this placement. We plan on rehiring MJ soon to help us with completing our home.Jan 5, 2015Verified
Mary Jane was a pleasure to work with. My two pieces , a bed frame and armoire came out beautifully. I would recommend and use her again any day!Aug 20, 2017Verified
The best decorative painting work I have ever seen. Meticulous, artful, and an unmatched eye for color. And a pleasure to have in your house.Nov 22, 2014
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?Unlike basic painting which is completed by technicians, specialty painting is a creative art. It's going to involve some level of design. The products will be more costly than latex paint. A complex process will require more layers than a basic paint job. Venetian plaster for instance, is applied with a trowel. This takes more care and time than rolling paint onto walls. We will discuss an estimate of time and cost. One thing is important to remember, a well prepared area and quality materials will last a long, long, time. It's very true, you get what you pay for. (Don't let that scare you.)
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? It's very important for the customer to express their vision, or at least how they want their space to feel. Often I recommend collecting a few images from magazines for our meeting. Showing me what they have that they love and what they dislike is also helpful. We build on that. Even from their clothing, the colors they wear, it all gives a picture of that person's style. Listening is most important. As we establish that sense of style, I can fill in with product and color choices that are probably beyond the client's awareness. They are the tools of my trade, the way to make the vision happen.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have a Bachelor of Fine Art degree. My first career was in the New York garment industry, working as an import buyer, in sales management and as a design director. For the last twenty years, I have had a small business in design and specialty painting. The preparation for this has not only been in fine art training in college, but also years of classes at The Finishing School in Floral Park, New York. The school was a highly professional training ground for all types of decorative finishes, taught by highly skilled and experienced artists and technicians.
