FAQs
- What types of customers have you worked with?
Dancing is something people of all ages and levels enjoy. Most of my instruction is introducing people to ballroom dancing and helping them develop a foundation so that they feel comfortable on the dance floor. Some people aspire to competition, but most want to be able to enjoy the social aspects of ballroom. Of course, there are a lot of wedding couples that want help preparing for their first dance on their big day. Other couples enjoy lessons as a date night and way to get to know each other while learning something together.
- Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I had two couples get married this weekend. One took one lesson and they learned the bare minimum of steps to move, turn corners, etc. Just that one lesson changed their first dance from “the sway” or “winging it”, to being able to move together on the dance floor. My second couple is more typical. They started about 4-5 months before their wedding and I custom choreographed a dance for them. It’s based on their vision of their wedding, their personalities, their dancing abilities, and of course their song. Their dance lessons were full of laughing and shared accomplishment. They learned their choreography, and in doing so they also learned dancing basics. Not only is their first dance going to be special and memorable, they’ve also mastered skills that will allow them to enjoy dancing together for all of their married life!
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
As with any service, caveat emptor, buyer beware. Make sure you find out what your prospective instructor teaches. Is it from a franchise syllabus that only other franchise students will know? Is it a custom social style that again may not be easy for others to follow? Do they follow the universal syllabuses (DVIDA & ISTD)? Know what you want from your dancing and it will help you find the right match in an instructor.
