I hired these guys to remodel the staircase in the garage. The original stairs were very steep and narrow, I wanted the new stairs to be much more comfortable and easier for people to use. They came in to give a quote in the afternoon, I agreed to it, and the work started the next morning. The whole work was done on that same day and felt quite rushed. I didn’t want to hold any payment right after they said they were done, but I looked at the work and had some reservations on the quality. After further reviewing the work the day after, I saw a few things that were off. First, the step risers were much higher than expected —— 2 inches higher than code (10 “). Second, the lack of proper handrails and the height of the steps created real safety concerns. I reached out to them right away thinking this could be fixed, I gave them the benefit of the doubt, but they kept saying over and over they would come back but never did, for over a month. Then they wanted $600 to fix the issue. They were very unwilling to make any compromise or to ensure the work was finalized properly. I was left with stairs that are better than before but still very unsafe to use. The whole reason I hired these carpenters in the first place. My issue was I shouldn’t have to pay $600 to fix something that should have been done properly in the first place. So, I’ve had to hire a handyman since the to try to rectify that by adding some handrails and some other things. In due time, I’ll have to replace the whole staircase completely because it’s too unsafe. All and all, a bad experience. Update: I filed a dispute with Thumbtack. But, the issue couldn’t be resolved through them because there was no written contract to go by, which again proves my point that I gave the carpenters the benefit of the doubt and trusted them to do a good and professional job. 10” high stair risers where everyone trips, and with no handrails, isn’t a professional nor a satisfactory job under any circumstances.

Update: We did try to resolve this issue before and after you filed a dispute with thumbtack to have us do work for free for you. We only did what you asked us to do and let you know of that it would be extra for us to come and adjust the stair height. It’s very unfortunate that you were unsatisfied when we did exactly what you asked us to do.
