Moreno Movers Review I contacted Moreno Movers via Thumbtack for what should have been an easy move. My request was to move a small sectional sofa from my home to a storage facility and to bring back one queen size bed, a sofa, and a loveseat out of the storage facility back to my home. My original request was for Friday, April 26th at 11 a.m., however after locking in that date and time, I received a call from Moreno movers asking if we could change the date to April 25th at 11 a.m. instead of the 26th and I agreed to do so. The driver arrived one hour late at 12 noon instead of the agreed time of 11 a.m. and they sent ONLY ONE MOVER. I questioned the mover regarding moving the furniture with only ONE MOVER and he replied, “I got it”. Once we arrived at the storage facility, the mover began to complain about having to pull furniture out of the way to retrieve the queen bed. I explained to the driver that it is a storage room and as such it should be expected that there may be furniture blocking the three pieces of furniture that I was removing from the storage room. I then called their office and spoke with Yamelsi Moreno regarding their decision to send one mover and I reported the mover’s complaints. Ms. Moreno basically lied and began making excuses stating that one mover was appropriate for a small move such as mine and SHE WRONGLY STATED THAT I DID NOT INCLUDE A SOFA IN THE ORIGINAL CONTRACT. AS NOTED IN THE ATTACHED CONTRACT, I LISTED A TWO PIEICE SECTIONAL SOFA, A LOVESEAT AND ANOTHER SOFA ALONG WITH THE QUEEN SIZE BED, BOX SPRING AND HEADBOARD. Ms. Moreno raised her voice at me and would not allow me to speak. After a heated exchange with Ms. Moreno, none of the aforementioned issues were resolved, we ended the call and the move continued. As soon as we returned from the storage facility and I pulled into my driveway, I receive a call again from Ms. Moreno demanding payment in full. I informed Ms. Moreno that my furniture had not been unloaded from the truck yet and that I would pay the remaining balance once my furniture was delivered as agreed. Ms. Moreno proceeded to inform me that she WAS CALLING THE POLICE ON ME AND SHE INSTRUCTED THAT HER MOVER NOT UNLOAD THE FURNITURE OFF THE TRUCK. I MYSELF CALLED THE POLICE AS WELL. Once the officer arrived, I showed him the contract, the deposit payment and informed him about what had taken place to this point. The officer stated that although he agreed that due to possible property damage, mishandling of furniture and possible job incompletion, payment should not be expected until the job was completed, but unfortunately, this was a civil matter and as such, he could not force Moreno Movers to unload my furniture. After speaking with the officer, I submitted the remaining balance against my will. After I paid in full, the officer instructed the mover to unload the furniture off the truck and into my home. At that exact moment, my daughter had pulled up to my home. There is no on-street parking on our block. Both the moving truck and the officer had pulled into my driveway. My driveway is long enough to fit at least five vehicles. Because the moving truck was blocking most of my driveway the officer offered to pull out of my driveway in order to allow my daughter to pull into the driveway, but the officer offered to stay nearby in case anything happened that would require his attention. As soon as the officer pulled out, the mover announced that that “my daughter was blocking him in” and I informed him that she would pull out as soon as he finished with no delays. The mover became irate stating that we were blocking him in and stated that “he QUIT.” The mover stated that Ms. Moreno was his wife and falsely stated that I had yelled at and cussed out him and his wife. The officer contacted Ms. Moreno and informed her that he was still on the premises and that the mover had more than enough space to unload the furniture without obstruction from my daughter’s car. The officer than asked my daughter to back her car as far as possible from the moving truck to appease the mover and she immediately move her car near the curb of my home and far away from the moving truck. Soon after, the officer received a call and had to leave. The mover proceeded to take the bed upstairs, he very roughly banged my loveseat up the stairs, banging it while pulling and struggling with the loveseat the entire way. He pulled the sofa off the truck and left it there. He called Ms. Moreno and informed her that he could not take the sofa inside, and he was still very irate. Since the officer had left, the mover’s behavior made me very uncomfortable and so I asked my daughter to move her vehicle so that the mover could leave. I paid in full as described in the contract to have my furniture loaded and unload and for assembly of the bed. Ms. Moreno reported that although I paid for furniture assembly, because my bed was already disassembled at pick-up, it was their company policy that they only assemble furniture that they disassembled. This information was not provided at the time of the contract agreement, so payment for this service should not have been included in the charges. Ms. Moreno also wrongfully reported that as per federal regulation 49 CFR section 375.211, payment is due by law before unloading any furniture. This was false information as the regulation quoted by Ms. Moreno states that “§ 375.211 Must I have an arbitration program? (a) You must have an arbitration program for individual shippers to resolve disputes about property loss and damage and disputes about whether carrier charges in addition to those collected at delivery must be paid.” I will also like to mention that the mover was vaping while moving my furniture at the storage facility. I cannot attest to the content of the mover’s vape pen, however regardless of he was smoking, it is unethical and unprofessional for the mover to have been smoking a vape pen while in the middle of his job. In the end, I had to contact my assistant and her husband to help me bring the sofa inside and I will have to hire someone else to assemble the bed. Since, this job was not completed as contracted, I will also have to sue Moreno Movers in civil court for a refund, court cost and any incurring fees. Save yourself from any of the unfortunate, infuriating and highly inappropriate circumstances that I have encountered as a regretful customer of Moreno Moving Co.
