FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Most of my work is local, within 20 miles of the airport. If the location is farther away I have to charge more according to the flight time. Flying into the major airspaces is also more expensive, sometimes they make you wait until traffic clears.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Flying requires you to stay proficient all the time. I have to be retested every 2 years. That includes a medical and a flight review with an instructor. He makes sure you have the skills to keep flying and reviews your flights and your knowledge of the laws. That includes at least a 1 hour flight doing the "bad things" that you would never want to do but have to know how to do it in an emergency. Imagine how much better we would all drive if we were retested every 2 years! There are only 636,000 current licensed pilots in the US out of a population of 317,000,000 people. And we all have to be retested at least every 2 years, commercial pilots 6 months.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I was always the kid with a camera and flying was a dream that my kids introduced to me through a Christmas present. A 1 hour flight in a high performance stunt plane allowed me to see that I actually enjoyed it and it was something that if I worked hard at I could do.
