Introduction: My work is unique in that from start to finish, I involve the customer in the entire process. My work is really their creation - their colors, themes, ideas, etc. I am only a method by which they make their dream confection a reality. My baked goods are 100% homemade, no artificial or preproduced ingredients. I use organic and free range ingredients wherever possible. I also specialize in gluten free and vegan baking. Taste testing!! No, really, I love the creative outlet and the way that people react when they see their ideas come to life in food.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Pricing for cakes, cookies, and cupcakes is done on a customized case-by-case basis. From start to finish, the NJ Cake Mama process is 100% tailored to your needs. Our general rule of thumb is $7-14 per inch per tier based on your combination of fillings, coverings, and the size of the cake. The base price per inch of diameter is $7, so a basic 10" tier, for example, would be $70. Fondant, cream fillings, or fresh fruit are all additional as are decorative add-ons like gum paste flowers or fondant bows. Cookies begin at $3.05 each and cupcakes begin at $4 each. All elements that are edible are made from scratch and each order is priced individually. Shipping is only available for cookies - all other orders must be picked up by the customer or delivered.
What types of customers have you worked with?
While each job is certainly one-of-a-kind, I find that birthday cakes are my biggest seller. Specifically, birthday cakes for children. I love this about the sales trend right now because children's cakes are generally more colorful and whimsical than more serious occasions. Also, since I'm a mom, I feel that children are something I'm very familiar with and feel very connected to.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
Making things from scratch is expensive and time consuming!! NJ Cake Mama makes EVERYTHING from scratch and uses wholesome ingredients - organic when possible. These things are pricey and require additional labor, so be reasonable when negotiating price please!! Also, a sketch to a finished product can yeild artistic differences based on physical logistics, humidity, all sorts of uncontrollable factors. No two cakes are identical and neither is a sketch to the finished cake.
