Corey carries much passion and knowledge for the saxophone. From fundamentals (e.g. positioning, embouchure, horn setup, and their effects on tone) to techniques to improve your chops, Corey provided a great understanding of my horn and sound, and tailored our lessons to develop aspects I enjoy about playing the saxophone. Improv, theory, composition... he's got it covered. I would recommend Corey to all different levels of players.

My experience has been very positive. It exceeded my expectation, I only wanted to get little proficient in playing the saxophone. His lessons are of the quality to make one a musician. He is positive and encouraging and seem to be able see possibilities despite current state.

I've been taking lessons with Corey for about 2 years now. Corey is a great teacher. He's very good at explaining technical musical information, and patiently explains it in different ways if I have a hard time understanding. Each session focuses on the areas I need improvement and we only move on once that is really understood both in understanding and in practice. Sometimes the lessons move away from the original topic/theme and goes where the conversation leads us and these times are some of my favourite because they're unplanned and interesting. Sometimes these turn into sessions on how to care for the instrument or troubleshoot sound/tone quality or air leaks. Corey is super knowledgable and I appreciate our conversations about the construction and physical technicalities of the sax.

Over the years I have dreaded the thought of being a musician or taking private lessons for sax. I know friends of mine who have, and they would talk about how they play these classical pieces or they're doing their scale drills for hours on end. Since I have recently discovered I want to audition for college as a music therapy major (not necessarily a musician but a therapist who utilizes music as communication), I found out I have to go and physically audition for them to be accepted into a psych program. I absolutely dreaded the thought of now HAVING to take sax lessons, preparing for the worst of countless drills I absolutely despise and hating every second of it, but only doing so because I need it to get into college. Well, to my surprise, here I am, looking forward to our lessons every week. We work on whatever I ask to work on, from classical audition pieces to messing around with Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, and just general soloing. Corey is absolutely fantastic and impressively patient especially with someone as stubborn as me. The way he teaches and the ways he finds ways to communicate with you and alter his teaching styles to match you is genuinely amazing and I know I've already recommended him to friends who are preparing for college auditions as well. If he can get me to actually enjoy playing the sax again, then trust me, you're in good hands.
