Piano Lessons

Ms. Ruth Kallen is a phenomenal piano instructor. She is very patient and understanding. During our lessons, she is very inspiring and incorporates her years of experience and passion into her teachings. Since taking her lessons, I feel more confident playing the piano, and I’m thrilled with my progress! I am an adult learning piano and I highly recommend her.

Piano Lessons

I am an adult piano student, returning to piano after many (many!) years. I have studied with Ruth for about a year now, and she has totally rekindled my love for piano. She is deeply knowledgeable, patient, and motivates me to challenge myself. Best of all, we discuss the type of music I enjoy, and she tailors the music selection to my interests - especially important to me as an adult student. I "feel" music, and she emphasizes dynamics, tempo, rhythm, etc. to impart emotion into the music I play. Ruth is gem among piano teachers (and an incredibly nice person as well!).

Piano Lessons (for children or teenagers)

I highly recommend Ruth Kallen as a piano teacher. My four-year old daughter began taking lessons six months ago, and I am amazed with how much she has learned. Thanks to "Miss Ruth," my daughter is developing a strong foundation in playing songs and reading music. Ruth is very patient and respectful of children. She sets appropriate goals based on a child's age. She is also experienced with teaching children with learning disabilities. Ruth teaches out of her home, which helps my sometimes rambunctious daughter stay focused. Ruth's prices are reasonable and she is flexible with scheduling. She has a warm, positive personality. I look forward to working with Miss Ruth for years to come!

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I usually like to start beginners with a 30 minute lesson. I feel that is enough time to keep their interest level high without overwhelming them. I usually schedule a lesson for one time a week at the same day and time but can certainly be flexible depending on the client. Pricing can be different with many teachers, but I feel my pricing is definitely competitive with other teachers. Having a bachelor of science degree in music education with a concentration in piano performance, puts me at a higher level than other teachers that don’t have that formal training.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Each week we work on increasingly more difficult concepts as it relates to the music. If I feel a student has some difficulty, repetition is key to playing the piano.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I am a graduate of Rutgers University with a degree in music education, concentration piano. I am always practicing pieces myself and I do perform for others as well.
