Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: First, I have 20 years' experience tutoring, so that is a lot of time listening and responding to students' questions. That experience helps me know how to help students effectively, which translates into greater help for the student "right off the bat." In addition, I am the author of five books on math, including the award-winning Algebra Survival Guide, available nationwide and through Amazon.com. Writing this book, from my experience tutoring, has brought me expertise in tutoring math in general and algebra in particular. What is more, I have done professional development workshops for school districts, helping them make their algebra curriculum more effective. So I have a great deal of proven experience, and I bring that experience to my work with every student. I enjoy watching students suddenly grasp a concept that they had not understood. Watching the "lightbulb" turn on is very exciting. And realizing that what makes the lightbulb go comes is just explaining a concept in the simplest possible way.

My daughter is 13,homeschooled and dreaded math. After a month or so with Josh, she actually( to my utmost surprise), said that it was fun. She looks forward to the tutoring sessions, and since we began them, has not uttered one math complaint. She also likes his book"The Algebra Survival Guide". After working from it, she soon realized that it was the first time that she understood what algebra is all about. I highly recommend him for anyone struggling with math, or those who want to further their math skills.I believe Josh would be equally as good with any subjects he chose to teach, as he is truly a gifted and thorough teacher. He has a very thoughtful and comprehensive knowledge of both subject and the needs of his student.

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

My pricing system is not complicated. I utilize a straightforward sliding scale, with sales tax added on. Parents and guardians find my pricing structure easy to understand and easy to live with.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Absolutely. I am a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and I am active in that organization. I have attended conferences and presented workshops at those conferences. I subscribe to the NCTM journals, and I am working on articles for their middle school publication. I also correspond with friends and colleagues who are tutors, and when we meet we often brainstorm how to handle challenging situations.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Ask around and see what other parents have to say about tutors. Due to the constant communication between parents and tutors, parents are usually the best source of information on who are the best tutors in town.
