I met Valerie during a Masterclass held in Casentino in 2016. She was very positive, yet demanding and right on with spotting my technical issues. For the art of "bel canto" singing I have learned a lot during that week and - what I personally feel the best achievement of a Masterclass - taken inspiration and curiosity home with the wish to keep on working on these issues. Only a few lessons with Valerie have given me methods and ways of practicing the "bel canto specifics". After returning home I have started working with her via Skype-lessons (which works fine, given a distance of about 6.400 kilometers). Thank you Valerie!Dec 5, 2016
I had the pleasure of studying with Valerie Girard after taking a (non-prescribed) break from singing after a full recovery from minor nodes on my vocal chords. We met weekly for an hour in her home (equipt with music stands, grand piano). The keen eye she kept on how I used my body/physical instrument and shaped my sound, her ease with direction and, of course, the proof of her skill in her incredible sound after a long performance career, all allowed me to begin vocalizing without fear and hesitation. She worked with me to find my weaknesses and remained perceptive to them in every lesson. She caught every poor choice/slip up in technique and always led by example in correcting these things. I was happy to meet with such a forward, honest teacher - it was just what I needed. Because Valerie is so easy to get along with, we often ran the risk of chatting too much...which didn't take away from my experience, but, of course, not getting side-tracked is important :)Jan 6, 2015
She is very knowledgeable and patience. Make you feel really comfortable and boost your skills to your singing skills. She also does singing tutorial (casentino voice) in Italy also you performing at the end of tutorial . I'm so exiting to have this kind of opportunity.Jun 20, 2015Verified
Valerie greatly improved my vocal technique. We worked on Classical, Opera and Music Theatre Styles. She works with students of all voices. I have a more solid understanding and passion for singing and technique work, as well as a renewed passion in my music career all because of Valerie. She has been one of the most influential voice teachers I've ever had. I have only studied with her once in NYC and then during the Casentino Voice program. You do not want to miss a chance to work with her. Working with her has been one of the biggest motivations in my singing career.Feb 8, 2019The Vocal Studio of Soprano, Valerie Girard's reply
Thank you Amy for the wonderful review! It was a pleasure working with you and I hope you do well in your career!
Valerie is the best vocal coach you'll find in NY area! Highly skilled and professional, with an incredible understanding of one's specific abilities and needs! Exceptional technique and approach! My vocal skills improved dramatically since I've started taking lessons with Valerie! She is also very knowledgeable and helpful with repertoire and language skills - Italian, German, etc. If you're looking for an amazing vocal coach - look no further!!!Jan 17, 2018
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?I prefer to teach a one hour lesson. If a student can’t afford my normal fee, we can possibly do a 45 minute lesson. I do charge if lessons aren’t cancelled with 24 hr notice (unless there’s an emergency).
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?First I ask every student to bring a song or aria to sing at your first lesson so that I get a sense of where you are vocally and musically. We then work on vocal exercises and technique. The rest of the lesson is spent on singing your music and immediately start applying the new technique.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work? The Juilliard School, Oberlin Conservatory, New England Conservatory of Music, HB Acting Studio, The Goldovsky Institute. Private study with Felix Knight, Jennie Tourel, Frederick Jagel, Viviane Mordo.
