About this pro

How does your business stand out?

I am able to bring out the specific vocal timbre of each voice. I don't impose a fixed idea of a "my" sound on anyone. Rather will bring out the uniqueness and beauty of your instrument. I think my students should sing music they love and start to apply the technique right away to get the joy of singing!

What do you enjoy about the work you do?

I am thrilled when a student is able to sing freely and express themselves with ease!

    Recommendation Valerie Girard
Last summer I went to the summer course Casentino Voice. Here I had the opportunity to work with Valerie Girard. She was able to give me some new ways to develop my voice and pointed out things I hadn't worked on before. I still feel the benefits from it! She is an amazing teacher who really cares about her students. I recommend her very highly.

    Bel canto singing
I met Valerie during a Masterclass held in Casentino in 2016. She was very positive, yet demanding and right on with spotting my technical issues. For the art of "bel canto" singing I have learned a lot during that week and - what I personally feel the best achievement of a Masterclass - taken inspiration and curiosity home with the wish to keep on working on these issues. Only a few lessons with Valerie have given me methods and ways of practicing the "bel canto specifics". After returning home I have started working with her via Skype-lessons (which works fine, given a distance of about 6.400 kilometers). Thank you Valerie!

Val is so pleasant to work with and has a great sense of humor along with excellently tending to what you want her to help you with. Scheduling is always easy and she goes about teaching in a way specific to the way you will understand it. As well as feeling like you're learning, you feel as if you're working with a friend.

I have known and worked with Valerie for quite some time. She has successfully helped me deal with some problem areas, improve my technique which in result helped better my performance. Valerie is an extraordinary singer with an international career and an extremely talented vocal teacher. She knows and understands voices which enables her to quickly recognize strenghts and weaknesses of any given singer, and come up with imaginative exercises in order to address any vocal problems a singer might have. Valerie is a dedicated teacher who possesses in depth knowledge of classical vocal repertoire and beyond, and can help anyone in need of excellent vocal guidance.

I had the pleasure of studying with Valerie Girard after taking a (non-prescribed) break from singing after a full recovery from minor nodes on my vocal chords. We met weekly for an hour in her home (equipt with music stands, grand piano). The keen eye she kept on how I used my body/physical instrument and shaped my sound, her ease with direction and, of course, the proof of her skill in her incredible sound after a long performance career, all allowed me to begin vocalizing without fear and hesitation. She worked with me to find my weaknesses and remained perceptive to them in every lesson. She caught every poor choice/slip up in technique and always led by example in correcting these things. I was happy to meet with such a forward, honest teacher - it was just what I needed. Because Valerie is so easy to get along with, we often ran the risk of chatting too much...which didn't take away from my experience, but, of course, not getting side-tracked is important :)

She helped me in 3 days to find the alignment of my voice. She is so talented and she has a lot of experience that she can find very fast the problema with our technique and work trough it. She is also a very good musician so she has a very good trained ear.

I very much enjoyed my lessons from Valerie Girard when I was living in Munich. She was personable, encouraging, professional and able to show me by example, with her beautiful voice and technique. I don't regret any money spent on her. Practicing and lessons were a good challenge. I recommend her to serious singers.

Elena came to me as a fairly well-know pop singer. Her range has grown tremendously and she has really grasped the technique. I'm so proud of her and admire her dedication! I look forward to continuing work with her to see where it will all go!

Q&A

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am constantly listening and inventing vocal exercise with each individual student. As member of various singer teacher unions, blogs, websites, etc...I am always learning!
How did you get started doing this type of work?
Perhaps it chose me? I started singing at a very young age. At 8, I sang my first role in an operetta as Mary in Babes in Toyland (March of the Tin Soldiers). When I was 14 started working with a voice teacher and sang my first concerts with orchestra at 16. Things started to take off for me...with competitions, recital awards, etc. I always loved art (I paint and draw too), but working with people in music is really wonderful and I felt satisfaction in giving myself to the audience. Even in my teens, when studying with my vocal mentor, I audited many of the lessons he gave to all kinds of voices, men and women. I wanted to be able to teach as well as sing.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
If you're prepared to work hard, you can learn a lot quickly. It takes time for the muscle memory to match your intellectual grasp. Give yourself some time to get the hang of it!
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
It takes many years of dedication and patience for the voice to grow and develop properly. The sound grows richer with the passage of years and you'll find new colors as you mature. It's an exciting adventure living with an instrument that's within your body!
