James was great the first time I used him, he did a cleanout/junk removal/furniture removal for the upstairs of my duplex and charged $400 which was very fair. I asked him for a quote a few months later for the same thing on the downstairs, and also asked him to include removing an oil tank from the basement and to have the unit cleaned. He quoted me at $1500, which was really high. I asked him to itemize the 3 parts of the job and he would not separate the price and said his dad helped him out the quote together and that’s what it is. After telling him I’ll do the actual cleaning on my own, we agreed on $850 for the junk removal and oil tank removal (which I still felt was very high, but I agreed). He FaceTimed me as his crew was trying to get the oil tank out just to “show me” that it was a struggle and tell me this is why he bid the job so high. It was very uncomfortable and unprofessional, it felt like an “I told you so” and I wasn’t sure what to say. He called me a few minutes later and said they could not get it out, so they left the tank. I asked him what I owe him and he said $850 still. We argued for a while about him charging me full price for a job he did not complete, so he offered me $50 off and then $100 off, meanwhile he specifically told me that that reason the price was so much higher this time was because of the oil tank (and now it’s only worth $100 to him?). After me not agreeing to pay $750 for just the clean out, he said he had to call someone. Apparently he spoke with his uncle and said they have someone who can cut the tank and remove it, and he profusely apologized. He ended up getting the job done, but this is a terrible way to conduct business and left a very bad taste in my mouth. I couldn’t imagine trying to charge someone full price for a job that was not completed and being so unprofessional about it. After my first experience with James, I definitely would have recommended him but after this experience, I would not.
