We had Adam for our son’s 26th birthday party in a tiny Georgian restaurant in NYC and he was great! He read the room well among his friends and other diners and came up with some great content that generated a lot of laughs! Adam made it a special night practicing his seasoned craft of comedy!

Adam is a very nice guy. He was okay as a comedian. My issue is this; he fed off the crowd in the beginning, which was funny, but when that avenue was exhausted he only brought in a small fraction of prepared material. He literally said to my son (whose party it was) that he was too perfect and there wasn’t a lot to say .. I mean come on… ugh 😩 quite a few guests made similar comments to me over the following days.

I'm terribly sorry Rachel was disappointed in the comedy set I did for her son's birthday. She and I had spent about 40 minutes on the phone, with me gathering information about him, their family, and their friends. Remarkably, when I arrived it turned out that the birthday boy's best friend from high school had hired me 3 years prior, to perform at her wedding. Here's the review from that event (you can see it in my Thumbtack profile): Victoria W. Comedy Entertainment Hilarious, talented and original! Adam really went above and beyond! Had such a memorable night! Very happy with our choice to hire Adam for our micro wedding! Had us laughing the whole time! Loved the personalized material as well, appreciate that he took the time to get to know us beforehand to include original jokes just for us! Thank you! Dec 12, 2022 Verified Much of the the information Rachel had offered up re: her son was about how he was looking for a nice traditional long-term relationship, so I prepared quite a lot of material (jokes) on that subject. But, when I started doing that at the party, her son seemed a uncomfortable, and that discomfort was changing the energy in the room, so people weren't having as much fun as they had been earlier. In fact, I asked in real time, "So, are you looking for Ms. Right, or you're good where with where you are?" And he answer, "I'm good with where I am." Which I took to indicate that my reading of the situation was correct. Taking a cue from her son and from the rest of the crowd, I "called an audible" and shifted back to crowdwork again, which they all were enjoying much more. (Rather than beating a dead horse with relationship material.) Regrets that Rachel's expectations were not met. But, I thought it was better to call that audible than to barrel through the prepared material and highlight the mismatch between the info I'd gotten and the vibe I was getting from the birthday boy. I speak on the phone at some length with a new client, to find out about their event, about the group that will be the audience, and about any guest(s) of honor. I gather as much information as I can so that I'll know what sort of humor will be most enjoyable and most appropriate for the occasion.

I read the newspaper and observe my children every damn day! More seriously, I have a BA in Theater from the University of Wisconsin--Madison and I graduated from the Circle in the Square Professional Workshop for Actors (a 2-year conservatory in NYC).
