Introduction: Music is a vast art, but it is entirely possible to learn it even if one has no experience, is very old or very young, or thinks they "have no musical sense". Often, it is only the absence of opportunity that creates this impression in the student! First, one focuses on being able to understand the core components of it--rhythm, pitch, melody, harmony--and then how to use them to express themselves. My goal as a teacher is always to facilitate the inclination of the student, and provide a track to a goal. It's a bit like being on a go-kart track..you're buzzing along, and if you hit the side, you're not going to crash, it will just bump you back onto the general path. I am the the track and you are the go-kart.
Music is my life. Teaching it is its own reward. I especially like reaching that breakthrough point with a student, where they realize, "oh wait, I just did that on my own!".
