Timothy Allen

Introduction: Hello! I am a professional guitarist and bassist who has been performing and teaching music lessons for 13 years in New York City. I teach guitar and bass lessons for any skill level. My goal as an instructor is helping my students develop strong rhythmic skills and learning the rudiments of the instrument, as well as learning to play songs they like. With kids, I take a more structured approach and encourage them to read music, but when I work with adults, I try to find out what makes them want to play the guitar or bass in the first place and help them learn how to play what excites them. About me: Timothy has toured extensively for the past 7 years with Antibalas, The Sway Machinery, Miwi La Lupa, and the hit Broadway musical Fela!. He has performed in over 20 countries throughout the USA, South America, Europe, the Middle East, Japan, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. At home in New York City Timothy has performed everywhere from classic (and now-defunct) underground venues like Tonic and Zebulon to iconic houses like The Apollo and Carnegie Hall. Timothy has played guitar with a notable and diverse group of artists like Allen Toussaint, Judy Collins, Sam Moore (Sam & Dave), Sharon Jones, Cee Lo, Mike Gordon (Phish), Esperanza Spalding, Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top), Steve Earle, Santigold, Saul Williams, The Roots, Italian pop star Jovanotti, Fela Kuti's original drummer Tony Allen, and the legendary Ethiopian organist Hailu Mergia.
