Introduction
Veteran Owned Artisan Paintworks begins and ends with master painter Richard Read. We will endeavor to exceed your expectations daily! Accomplished in all the components of the painting trade (interior/exterior, stain, power wash, floors, plaster/drywall, spraying, after 31 years in the trade, what I still genuinely love is restoration, fine interiors and faux (woodgrain, wash, glaze, Portola lime wash, etc...). With a college background in art, these parts of the trade inspire the Art in Artisan Paintworks. And with an unshakeable pride in the work we do (whatever it may be), our goal is to grow our brand one satisfied customer at a time. Richard Read was indoctrinated into the trade by an old school Irish painter. For the first year only allowed to prep as I learned nothing but THE most important part of the trade: PREP! (stripping old Victorian's in the Northwest Corner by hand with an open flame torch!). Then in the second year only allowed to prime (when not prepping) as I learned maximum coverage, the fine feather and mastering ambidexterity with a brush. Primer and trim paints were all oil based in those days and finishes were like glass (advance gets close). In the third year it was on as I advanced from Journey man to mechanic as skills were honed. Over the next 7 years it was Brownstone restorations in Manhatten, learning faux and hanging paper in homes like Meryl Streep and Michael J Fox and soldiering on towards the 10-year mark and the coveted title of Master. Before going on my own, I was a 15-man company's only foreman. In 2005, the natural order of things manifested themselves and Artisan Paintworks was born. I love what I do and its part of my very identity. If you can imagine it or see it in a magazine...I can duplicate it. Finally, in these tough economic times, painting (above all other home improvement investments) provides the greatest return on your investment no matter how large or small. It's a great way to have your money...make money. Fully insured. Lift certified. Lead abatement certified. Osha certified. Knowledgeable of Green technologies introduced into the trade. Rick stripped years of paint off our kitchen cabinets and island. Stained them black or ebony. Replaced all hardware. He also painted ceiling, walls and remaining trim.
