Sound Artist believes that all people have the power to express themselves through music. Led by Prana, with a decade of experience guiding people into music, is prepared to meet the unique needs of each student and support their creative goals. Making music is a joyful experience with equal importance on technical growth and development.
With a degree in music performance and music education from the Eastman School of Music, a career as a freelance performer and recording artist, a successful teaching studio with students ranging from ages 5 to 75, Sound Artist is ready to guide you toward your musical dreams. We offer skills for instruments including piano, drums, percussion, handpan, guitar, as well as skills for song writing, creative music making, and theory and composition.
Our Sound Artist classroom is equipped with a baby grand piano, an acoustic and electronic drum set, a range of hand percussion instruments, a collection of for rent and for sale handpans, acoustic and electric guitar and bass, as well as a fully operational recording and production studio. Sound Artist also provides world class virtual instruction for anyone to study with us around the world.

Taking handpan lessons with Sound Artist (Prana) has given me the confidence and skillset that has elevated my performing and playing to a higher level than I ever imagined. Each week, the lesson is interspersed with stretching exercises, introduction of new rhythms, time signatures and then playing improvised music that incorporates all the things I’m learning and practicing. Prana is both a teacher and a friend, as the lesson usually includes some spiritual discussion that always seems “perfect for the moment”. If you want to learn and grow as a musician, I highly recommend taking some lessons and doing the work. You will be amazed!

My one-on-one lesson with Sound Artist was a transformative experience : ) Prana's philosophy that making music should be natural and fun really resonated with me. Prana emphasized the importance of listening and feeling the music, rather than simply playing the notes. The lesson was structured, but not rigid, allowing me to explore and experiment with the instrument. Prana's enthusiasm for music was infectious, and I felt encouraged to be creative and playful with my playing. Overall, the lesson felt more like a musical conversation than a formal class, and I left feeling inspired and excited to continue my musical journey with Sound Artist!

Our lessons are of very high value. They are ostensibly piano lessons, but they are also a bit music theory, a bit meditation, a bit philosophy and a lot self-care. I was an adult beginner at piano and lessons with Sound Artist have been delightful and fulfilling. Even my toughest skeptics (my children) say I am improving a lot! Our babysitter loves when lessons overlap with when she's at our house -- she says, "It's a great vibe."
