Introduction: My name is Paul Reed; I founded and finished building High End Sound Recording Studio in 2009. The main purpose of the construction project was to create a setting where high-quality sound recordings could be made, using either analog methods with a beautiful vintage 3M 2-inch, reel-to-reel 24-track tape machine, or digital technology with top-of-the-line Mac Pro computer, running both Logic Studio and Pro Tools. The final product of either process stands out because of my use of vintage analog gear, including some classic microphones by Telefunken, AKG, Beyerdynamic, Sony, etc., as well as carefully chosen outboard analog signal processors and a traditional plate reverb, complement a very comprehensive collection of software for both effects and utility applications. My experience in the field of music performance, including both pop idioms and classical orchestral music, spans 38 years of working in recording studios, Broadway show orchestra pits, jazz clubs, and on tour with various well-known rock music acts. My familiarity with music performance and my knowledge of music production techniques has given me the edge needed to turn out recordings that do justice to the potential residing in the music I am recording. My instrument is the drum kit, and that side of my expertise is available to anyone looking for instruction in the art of drumming. I have taught both novice and experienced drummers of all ages for over 20 years. Until 2007, my career was centered in NYC, where most of my teaching took place at Drummers' World over a period of several years. Since my relocation to Chatham in upstate New York, I have taught here at my studio (High End Sound Space for Percussion Studies). I currently have students mostly in their younger teens. Some of them are enrolled for intensive instruction programs, entailing lessons lasting 2 hours or more. When appropriate, I try to take some of the younger students to my performances, so they can see what working in the field is really like under realistic conditions. Occasionally, I arrange for a student to actually sit in with my band, The Paul Miller Quartet, and actually experience the full effect of being on the stage as a working drummer. Besides recording live-performed music and teaching drumming, I also offer other services at High End Sound. These include digitizing and creating copies either on CDs or as data files saved on any chosen computer format. Customers can bring me their aging tapes (reels or cassettes) and take home their music or other captured sound in any digital form they desire, including mp3, AIFF, WAV files, burned onto CD as data or audio, or stored on flash drive hard drive, or sent over the internet via a file transfer protocol or emailed mp3 files. I have also recorded voice-over work, including audio books and audio for radio/TV commercials. I've even provided internet-streamed connections for radio stations hundreds or thousands of miles away for the purpose of conducting live on air interviews with persons in this area. I would sum up my services by saying that I look to provide the highest quality work in any of the areas in which I am equipped to function -- those areas with which I have had extensive experience. I do this because I find that it is a good living and also because I love to share the gift of beautiful sound!
