We hired Mike to be the officiant and DJ for our wedding. He did a fantastic job; got the guests involved with dancing and helped everyone loosen up (we had many older people attend). He listened to what we wanted and if we were unsure he gave us ideas. There were times when we put our trust in him and it worked out great!

Mike played, sang, and dj'd my mom's 90th birthday party. He was a fantastic asset to the party - he read the mood of the crowd the entire evening, took requests, got people up dancing, and my mom even lead a congo line! I would highly recommend Mike and plan to have him again. Candice

Mike played at our wedding receptions and was professional, polite, and a great value! He played all our requests, took appropriate requests and the music seems to flow seamlessly. We are so happy that we choose him. The live piano/keyboard music was fantastic with light singing during dinner/eating time. His introductions were perfect and his means of communicating directions was professional! For example, he never stopped the music and shouted "get some dessert." He always kept the music playing, wording directions in a great fashion. We could not have had a better DJ, from the sound quality to the variety of songs. He was even able to customize an entrance song for the parents of the bride.

I hired Micheal Purcell as a DJ for my daughters' Bat Mitzvah after he contacted me through Thumbtack. Although I was initially hesitant he eased my concerns with an experienced philosophy regarding ideas to engage guests for the best party experience. Our party was set as an afternoon affair in a room located in the synagogue. The girls did a fantastic job during the service and Michael helped to continue the joyous atmosphere once the reception began. We all had a blast dancing and enjoying the wonderful occasion and Micheal's skill helped to keep the mood celebratory throughout the entire event. I highly reccomend his services .... Even my experienced caterer took a few of his cards for future reference.

Mike was our DJ for our daughter's wedding reception. The bride and groom are big fans of Irish/Scottish music, and Mike had no trouble putting together the kind of music they wanted. He even found multiple versions of a fairly obscure song my Dad requested at the reception. At our request, he kept the music quiet enough so that we could talk during dinner, and he was great to work with. I would definitely recommend Mike and A-1 Entertainment.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Yes I do. I attend the National DJ Conference in Las Vegas each year to keep up on the latest and greatest innovations in my industry. Whether it's marketing, equipment, or shared experiences of others, that's how you improve your skills.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
No matter what profession you do, you should love it. I was pre-med in college (my father/grandfather/cousin/brother were all doctors.) I had good grades but no passion for what I was doing. My true passion was in music and entertainment. So I went to my father and told him I wanted to do music for a living and he said, in his own words. "Go for it!" I did and I haven't looked back since. It's seeing the joy on people's faces that makes me happy and feel fulfilled in my chosen profession.
What types of customers have you worked with?
The most popular performance I do for parties or weddings is the "Live Performance DJ" in which I play live keyboard for a ceremony or cocktail hr, then go into "DJ mode" for dancing. It's a great combination and gives a "touch of class" to the event! I also have the option of adding more instruments such as a sax or violin. Of course I can always do straight DJing with a great light show.
