Guitar, ukulele, and bass lessons — online and in person. I've been playing guitar for over 30 years and teaching for 20+, working with students from complete beginners to advanced players.
I earned a BM in Guitar Performance from Mansfield University and a Master's in Worship Studies from Liberty University, and I've performed and recorded across jazz, rock, blues, country, bluegrass, R&B, and worship music. That range means I teach what you want to learn — not a one-size-fits-all method.
Lessons are built around your goals: we start with what you know, get beginners playing recognizable songs fast, and help stuck intermediates break through with fretboard knowledge, theory that finally makes sense, and real songs. I love teaching, I love performing, and nothing beats watching a student light up when the music clicks.

Melvin was the best choice we could have made for our ceremony. He has a pure kind heart, and it shines through in his personality and music. He was more than accommodating when it came to the price and hours he would play, and when we finally had our ceremony we were blown away with his talent. Not only were we satisfied but our guests enjoyed the music and plenty of them chatted with him and mentioned how kind he was.

I am 41. Prior to starting lessons with Melvin I had absolutely no experience with the guitar at all. I've been taking weekly lessons with Melvin for 6 months now and I feel I'm making great strides. He tailors the approach such that you work on music that fits your taste. He's very patient and engaging - an excellent teacher. I highly recommend!

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
$40 per half hour, or $160 a month for four 1/2 hour lessons.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Start with what they know, and go from there. If they are a complete beginner, my goal is to get them playing something they can recognize ASAP!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
BM in Guitar Performance, Mansfield University (2006) — classical and jazz guitar, ear training, sight-reading, jazz improv and arranging; performed in masterclasses with players including Grammy winner David Russell. Master's in Worship Studies (Ethnomusicology), Liberty University (2013). 30+ years playing and 20+ years teaching across jazz, rock, blues, country, bluegrass, R&B, and worship — plus ongoing online study to stay current.
