My daughter has been taking voice lessons with Mary over Skype for the past six months. She had previously been taking in-person lessons at a local music school but she felt she wasn't improving as much as she wanted to. I was skeptical about how well lessons over Skype would work, but after watching my daughter perform the lead in Bye Bye Birdie a few weeks ago, I am no longer skeptical. The difference in her voice from her last musical was notable. She has always had raw talent and a good voice, but her performance in Bye Bye Birdie was at a different level. The maturity and quality of her voice really set her apart and I am excited to see what she does next. I would never have thought that lessons over Skype could be as effective as (or more effective than!) lessons in person, but Mary has clearly proven that it is the teacher that matters, not the medium. I highly recommend her!Sep 4, 2018

Mary is great. Very patient and detail oriented, she took her time explaining how to breathe properly, which is my big issue. Thank you Mary, I will definitely recommend you !Oct 26, 2017Verified
I loved that she was very patient with me and repeated everything multiple times. It prevented me from getting frustrated. I felt like she valued my time. She is very nice and has many good stories to tell; her experience in the field of singing and acting, plus being a voice teacher, makes her a great pick!Jul 23, 2017Verified

- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?I am fifty dollars an hour on Skype. In person sixty dollars an hour , but also give forty five minute lessons for fifty dollars.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I studied with two of the best known teachers in NYC, one of whom was a coach for the Metropolitan Opera. I teach the same technique they taught me which works for every kind of singing from opera to rock. As an actor, I have worked with some of the finest directors in the professional theatre and studied acting with the legendary Sanford Meisner.
- What types of customers have you worked with?I do both private song and monologue coaching for college and theatre auditions and also teach acting (Meisner Technique), writing and voice to adult and student actors in private and group classes. I recently coached a student at Connecticut College for her audition for their fall productions. She got the part. My most recent college audition coaching was for for a student who has been accepted into the acting program at Carnegie Mellon. My youngest student, age nine, just closed in her first Off Broadway show, "Evergreen" at the Prospect Theatre Company. My student, Emily, just got the role of Gabriella in her school production of "High School Musical. Whether in a show in NYC or a school production, I'm very proud of all of them.
