Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: Most teachers, like me, are professional musicians who supplement their income by giving lessons. However: I genuinely love teaching and would happily do it even if I didn't need the money. My students can see the passion and excitement I have for my work, and that does wonders in their ability to learn and develop. It is one thing to play an instrument well, but it is another thing entirely to know how to teach it well. Everything. I love working with people, especially children. I love making others feel proud and rewarded for their accomplishments. I love using music to facilitate such positive experiences in people's lives.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I do hour lessons at $50 an hour plus gas. My car gets an unfortunate 17 miles per gallon and only takes premium gas--every 17 miles is about 4 dollars. Therefore, if I travel to the home, a typical lesson costs between $54 and $58. Keep in mind that the going rate is $60-75 an hour to travel to the teacher's studio and $65-80 for the teacher to travel to you! My rates are quite a bargain.

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I began volunteering as a music tutor while in high school. The parents offered to pay me instead, and my clientele grew exponentially through word-of-mouth.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Make sure you thoroughly interview the teacher and get a feel for their experience, clarity, and warmth. I have heard horror stories about "teachers" whose approaches have made students feel anxious, upset, or self-conscious.
