This is much more than a review....it is a history of our, relationship with Tom McMahon. It all started with hurricane Irene, several years ago, when we had water damage to our house. Tom came In and repaired all the damage as well as putting some measures in place to make sure that our basement would never flood again. Since then, he has remodeled our kitchen, bathrooms, (2), turned three separate bedrooms into a huge master bedroom with a walk in closet, built a man cave in the basement, put in an elevator to help my wife with her mobility issues, and a heated walkway for the same reason. His most recent project was to close in our 16x20 deck into an amazing three season room. Tom is the best contractor you will ever use BAR NONE,!! He works with you all the way through the project and will not rest until it is perfect. He is the only "outsider" I have ever used who treated my home as if it were his own. He is an amazing craftsman and will never cut corners.

I didn't know where to turn to repair a roof problem resulting in water literally pouring into our home during a storm. A friend recommended McMahon and we couldn't be more grateful. Unfortunately we had multiple roofing and plumbing emergencies within a few weeks and Tom came through 100% in each case with immediate responses and impeccable repairs. Tom even responded on a Saturday night and arrived with two associates early Sunday morning to address the problem. We will use McMahon in the future for our home repairs.

All of the work that we wanted done was completed expertly and on time. They went out of their way to make sure we were kept aware of everything that was happening and to get our preferences. We had our basement finished, and when unforeseen additions had to be made to the total work done, we were immediately told and together we made decisions on how to proceed. Overall, we had a great experience with MHI.

We had a relatively straight forward project-removal and replacement of a French door with a French slider to our porch. Log house made it a bit challenging for removal and fitting. Got a better price for custom configuration through local William's Lumber, so MHI said get it there and then provided recommendations for inspecting the door upon delivery. Trying to get door installed around holiday travel plans and MHI worked with me to get that done. Said it might take 2 days. Crew showed up on time and battled through a ton of glue and caulk and 8-inch spikes to remove the old door. They had the new door in, customized casement trim, and the work area cleaned up by mid afternoon. And through all that with the door out they did not let our indoor cat escape. Several other upcoming interior and exterior projects planned for the next year and will definitely look to MHI when I am ready.

I had McMahon's Home Improvement install a masonry patio along with a retaining wall and built-in natural gas grill. The job was spectacular and went very smoothly. I have immediately become the envy of the neighborhood!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
In our field, every vendor we use sponsors continuing education events to showcase new products, methods and project management tools, and we attend those we hope will further our knowledge base. Then there is Internet study, monthly trade journals, Home Shows, and peer groups, etc, that help us to stay sharp.
What types of customers have you worked with?
We love to build and do major remodels, turning a space that was once cramped and not of maximum value to the homeowner into a gem they love to use. We have transformed small homes to larger, closed spaces to open, added on, raised the roof or finished the basement so that Mom could move in. We've turned drab kitchens and bathrooms into showpieces, and have ensured homeowners' families' safety by replacing failing roofs and unsafe framing. When building an addition, we do it all, from the foundation to the roof, basically, every specialty needed to complete it.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
A lovely soon to be retired couple wanted to remodel their "forever home" . Recently married, they wanted to make a house the husband had owned and raised a family in for decades into one that would serve them the rest of their lives. One of the design challenges was in making sure that everything we did made life easier for his new bride who suffers from Rheumatoid Arthritis. We combine two bedrooms into one huge master suite with custom walk-in closet. We then expanded the existing upstairs bath and installed a large custom-tiled, curbless, shower with bench with a linear wall drain so that there would never be a barrier to her getting into the shower. It is a two-story house, and we needed to find a way to get her easily from the garage to the upstairs Master without her having to use stairs. To solve that, we installed a heated cement ramp from the back of the garage, that absolutely will not freeze in any winter weather, down to a door where she could easily enter into a private interior lift that brings her from the basement level straight into her bedroom, safely and quietly. We finished the project with an open concept kitchen remodel, a video of which you can find on our website.
