FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am always studying, almost every year I enroll in a new course of study. I attend 1-3 professional conferences per year and I enhance my knowledge and understanding in trainings and collaborating with colleagues to stay at the leading edge of my field. I am currently an intern in integrative medicine and participating in a focus group on nutrition based integrative medicine and healing.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I was a severe migraine suffer who was misdiagnosed and then treated with serious pharmaceutical drugs such as anti-seizure medications, until the side effects of those drugs caused me to gain 80 pounds and become dysfunctional in my life. No longer able to work as a result of the severe effects of the medication and untreated migraines, I started a quest to heal myself with the guidance and support of friends in various fields. As a nutritional physiologist, I used my in-depth knowledge of the body at the cellular level to alter my diet and lifestyle to heal myself. My understanding of the gut/brain relationship and interactions at the cellular level allowed me to embrace other modalities to support my healing such as behavioral modification, energy healing and meditation. I learned how to feed my brain, feed my body and manage my life for optimum wellness. Today I am off all the medications, no longer suffer the horrible side effects and I use diet and supplementation to maintain my health. I am vibrant and energetic. After my experience I decided to use my skills, training and experience as a Ph.D. nutritional physiologist and research scientist to re-tool and train so that I can have a nutritional health practice and share this training, knowledge and personal experience with my clients. It is extremely rewarding work.
