FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I typically spend the first couple minutes of the first session getting to know the student on a personal level (their hobbies and interests), and then we will work through a couple problems so I can sense of the way the student approaches problem sets, his/her confidence when answering, and skills they need to work on.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I worked at Mathnasium and became Mathnasium-certified to tutor K-12 students in 2020, and worked with numerous students on improving their basic math skills in addition to the curriculum they learned at school. As well, I volunteered for a number of years at my high school to tutor students in math, anywhere from the 6th grade curriculum to Calculus 3 and Differential Equations. Lastly, I have been private tutoring since November 2020 and have worked with 50+ students ages 4-21, many of which ended up thriving in their math classes and discovered a newfound passion for the subject.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I really struggled in math myself in middle school and early high school. Not only did I have large content gaps, but my confidence was extremely low in solving problems. One teacher completely changed the trajectory of my attitude for math and frankly, the trajectory of my life. I became extremely engrossed in the subject and took many high-level college math courses in high school, and continued this trend in college. That experience is a big part of why I tutor. I understand how frustrating math can feel, and I care deeply about helping students build both confidence and a strong foundation. My goal is for students to not only improve, but to feel comfortable, capable, and even enjoy the subject.
