Catherine was great. Our dog spent her first 5 years in a puppy mill and as a result she is traumatized and extremely fearful. Catherine understood exactly how to handle her. She spent much more than an hour each visit to allow Jessie time to become comfortable with her. Her insights were invaluable to us. Her techniques enabled us to gain Jessie’s trust and subsequently to start training her without causing her stress. She had a major fear of men. Following Catherine’s recommendations within 2-3 weeks there was major improvement. She trusts my husband now and will seek him out on her own for walks and pets. She doesn’t try to hide or cower in fear anymore when strangers come in the house. She has notably more confidence. I reached out to Catherine quite a few times about how to handle a few situations that came up and she always responded immediately. We couldn’t be happier with her progress and I would happily recommend Catherine to anyone needing help with their pups.

Details: 2 - 10 years old • Small (16 - 25 lbs) • Private lessons • General obedience training • House training • Leash pulling • My home, venue, etc.

Catherine has been great to work with. She has been extremely professional and patient with me being a new dog owner and able to present what she wants me to know in a clear concise way that makes it an very effective training method. Maisie my yellow lab has shown a lot of improvement with the one on one attention and is only getting better.

Catherine helped me train my puppy to walk well, sit, stand, come and lie down - all the things a well-behaved dog must know. Catherine came to my home, was always on time and worked with my puppy and me a number of times over a two-month period. Catherine's love of dogs is obvious and her experience as a biology professor transfers to her good ability as a dog trainer. If Catherine's first approach to a problem doesn't work, she will have another one to try. Catherine will help you make your dog be the well-behaved, happy companion you want it to be.

Catherine is an enthusiastic, patient teacher who helped us immensely in transforming our adorable but very headstrong, willful puppy into a wonderfully pleasant member of the family. For instance, under her kind guidance, delivered in a firm and good-humored manner, our dog now walks with us on the leash rather than dragging us down the street. Catherine has a great love and understanding of dogs, which clearly shows in her training methods. I highly recommend her.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I charge $100 per session for private lessons and offer discounts for payment in advance and for semi-private sessions.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

After text messaging and an agreement to work together is reached an initial appointment is made. At that appointment I meet both the dog and relevant family members. I assess the dog's temperament and get a history from the owner(s). This enables me to develop a training plan and to begin working with the dog.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I am a Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA) and a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT) and do continuing education through this organization and other experts. I am also an AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluator.
