Introduction: I am passionate about my work. I love imparting knowledge and skill to my students. I want the best for them. Every person is different . I try to assess the best way to teach my students and then tailor a long term plan for gradual growth towards a desired musical goal. I've my first lesson with Mr. T and I was wonderful. I had some experience with music before and he did a little assessment and figured where my skill was. He is very thorough with teaching and I really like how he sends you typed up notes detailing what you should work on that week along with notes and other useful pdf's. A great experience so far!

Details: 26 - 44 years old • Yes, the student can read music • No formal training • Pop • Yes, the student has a keyboard • 60 minutes • Remotely (phone or internet)

From what you’ve probably heard, starting to play piano again as an adult can often come with frustrations and regrets. I had some apprehension about starting again at first, but after taking lessons with Mr. Butler, much of it has gone away. I have already made notable progress, gained more confidence in my potential, and best of all, had a lot of fun practicing and learning. Mr. Butler’s lessons are catered to your individual learning style and goals. His robust lesson plans will help you become a well-rounded pianist by focusing on several areas of performance such as sight-reading, playing by ear, music theory, improvisation, and technique. Self-study of outside materials is also encouraged. There is also an innovative use of software and great internet resources that I certainly wish I had at my disposal back in the day. I definitely believe that by following his practice routine, taking things slowly, and being consistent in my practice, I can efficiently bring my skills to a high level over the course of the next months and years. Atmosphere and attitude is often just as important as content in a lesson, and this is another aspect where Mr. Butler flourishes. Not only is he highly proficient and knowledgeable, but he's also very laid-back and understanding. During lessons, he is very patient and is able to break down musical concepts in a way that is easy to understand. It's been a great pleasure to start playing and performing music again, and this wonderful experience would not be possible without the gift of having the opportunity to take lessons with such a great teacher. I can't recommend Mr. Butler highly enough.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

There is no complicated pricing system for my music instruction. My basic fee is $45/60minutes. Currently online lessons are very popular And I charge $35/60 minutes . If I have to travel a great distance then I might add an additional $10 for gas. Sometimes I will ask you to pay for material that I present to you but generally I will give you xeroxed copies or ask you to go and buy a certain book.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I generally do an assessment of a potential student to see if they’re a beginner , intermediate or advanced student. Then I try to make the first few lessons as fun as possible by getting the student to play songs that they really like .

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I believe in the Juilliard standard of directed self study. I am always trying to learn. I have found You Tube to be a resource that is invaluable. Technology has made learning and performing music that much easier and I keep up with the latest in technology and software by reading journals and the like. I have a Bachelor of Art degree from Columbia University. Music was my major. I’ve taught Music in public and private schools for the past 20 years .
