Introduction: At Centered Health, acupuncture is used to provide drug-free pain relief, assist in prevention against disease, and treat the cause, as well as the symptoms of patient complaints. The acupuncturist works to understand physiological processes, and the patient's experience of them. When a patient experiences pain or disability in an emotional or physical realm, it is the job of the practitioner to determine what physiological processes are being disrupted to cause the symptom. Acupuncture, lifestyle and dietary changes, herbal remedies and movement create the conditions for a patient to become healthy. The intervention itself is a creative moment where practitioner works with the patient to design a path that allows the patient to be symptom-free. Acupuncture can effectively treat: - Digestive disorders: Gastritis and hyperacidity, spastic colon, constipation, and diarrhea. - Respiratory disorders: Sinusitis, sore throat, bronchitis, asthma, and recurrent chest infections. - Neurological and muscular disorders: Headaches, facial tics, neck pain, rib neuritis, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, various forms of tendinitis, low back pain, sciatica, and osteoarthritis. - Urinary, menstrual, and reproductive problems. Acupuncture is particularly useful in resolving physical problems related to tension and stress, and emotional conditions, including stress, anxiety and depression. After suffering too long with pain, headaches and sleep deprivation, I was finally diagnosed with fibromyalgia. The chiropractor I was seeing at the time suggested I see an acupuncturist and introduced me to Andrea Henkels. I was hesitant, but desperate for relieve. Andrea immediately won my confidence with her caring and professional manner. Andrea is knowledgeable in all areas of healing including acupuncture, herbal supplements and massage. She is a kind, gentle, caring spirit. I left my first appointment feeling relaxed, peaceful and centered. I have continued to see Andrea to help me deal with my fibromyalgia and would highly recommend her services to anyone looking for an alternative to Western medicine.

Andrea is extremely knowledgable and has a way of putting her patients at ease. I would highly recommend her to anyone. I for one was petrified of acccupuncture but her calm demeanor and understanding has helped me reap the benefits in more ways then what I initially saw her for!

I have had acupuncture throughout the years initially as an occasional add-on to my wellness care routine. After finding Andrea, it is an absolute requirement to my emotional and physical well-being. She has consistently taken the time and interest in addressing specific health issues such as neck and shoulder pain, joint pain, headaches, bloating/water retention as well as menopausal concerns... always initiating relief. Not only can she address the physical but Andrea has been invaluable in working with me on emotional wellness, specifically dealing with the sadness over the loss of a loved one, the winter blues or just feeling calm and at peace. Andrea is a GEM!

FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

Growing up as a competitive equestrian, I injured my shoulder training young horses. I sought out massage therapists, chiropractors and other doctors before trying acupuncture. After three treatments the pain was gone. I was fascinated by the medicine and wanted to learn about it. The acupuncturist was nice enough to give me a few books to read and I became increasingly interested in Eastern Medicine. Eventually that same acupuncturist became my mentor and I went on to receive my Masters in Acupuncture.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

The acupuncturist should a Masters of Acupuncture or Oriental Medicine. The education length should be a minimum of three years with clinical work.
