I perform a smart mix of close-up magic and mentalism aimed not just at being entertaining, but at being the right element at your party, in the right place, at the right time. When performing walk-around magic (which I recommend for most social evenets) I check'll check in with the host and or staff to see if I can help out by giving folks waiting for their drinks a pleasant distraction, or occupy the guy too drunk to stay while he waits for the taxi you called for him. Magic is a great excuse to get people to move into a certain room or space at a certain time, to give strangers and icebreaker, or to put a spotlight in the right place at the right time. I've adapted this philosophy to events from tech events in San Fransisco, to concerts in New York, to weddings in Wyoming and the UK. This is my wheelhouse. I do however also have a platform show, mostly mentalism, designed to pack small and play big, mostly corporate events. I offer it advisedly, but for most social events billed as someone's wedding or birthday, you're better off keeping the focus on the guests of honor rather than make everyone stop what they're doing to watch a magician instead. That said, I do have a stage act. Stylistically, my magic is aimed at adults, not children. Mind reading, seeing the future, and communicating telepathically aren't feats that really land with kids. Also, with adults, when appropriate, I can use adult language. I perform for private parties and at larger, corporate events. I have different rates for these two specialties, though I don't know if Thumbtack makes that clear. I charge for all of my expenses, including travel, so rates may vary. Generally these only go up much if I have to fly from the Bay Area to perform, or with seasonal demand.
