- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I started playing piano when I was five years old. By "playing" I mean making noise. My family didn't have the money to afford lessons until I was about eleven so during those six years I was on my own. I played every day for hours. I taught myself how to read music and stumbled through song after song until it resembled the piece it was. By the time I started lessons I was pretty far along. I had a great teacher who mixed our lessons with classical pieces/exercises and modern pieces that spoke to my heart. At fourteen years old I started writing music. It provided me with so much comfort through some dark times. I was a soft spoken child and wasn't great with words. Sitting at the piano I learned that I could say things with a combination of notes and rhythmic patterns that people could understand. Music is a unique language and teaching someone to learn it is an experience more rewarding than any other I've come across.
