My professional credits include the Metropolitan Opera, Teatro alla Scala, Staatsoper Berlin, Opéra National de Paris, and a Broadway First National Tour. I also teach Classical Voice at Drew University.
Lessons are individualized to each singer—whether you’re a beginner discovering your voice, a student preparing for auditions, or a working performer looking to strengthen your technique. In-person voice lessons are available in Midtown Manhattan, with virtual lessons also available.

Jacob Solge has been an incredible vocal instructor from the very beginning. He teaches techniques that helps improve voices and values each of his students talents. He helped through a lot during the time that I've known him and he is always caring and uplifting as well as always pushing our vocals and skills to better heights. Trust me, you will not regret.

Jason is a true professional. He has been a performer in the business for so many years and understands what it takes to make a longevity of a career. He doesn’t JUST teach voice. On top of that, he teaches you how to make it in this business (from real life experiences), makes sure your voice is healthy enough to withstand the jobs you need to do and gives you the confidence to pursue that. Plus Jason is a down to earth person. You feel free to work and grow in your craft while working with him. I definitely would recommend working with J. Sofge Vocal Studio!
The J. Sofge Vocal Studio's reply
Thank you so much, Scott! This means a great deal to me. One of the things I care about most is helping singers build a healthy, reliable technique that actually serves the work they want to do—and giving them a space where they can take risks, grow, and develop confidence in their own artistry. I’m so grateful for your trust and for such a thoughtful recommendation. It’s a pleasure working with you!

I started taking voice lessons with Jason earlier this year, and I can tell you I was definitely nervous. Ive always enjoyed singing, had a late start at it, but figured I wanted to do something fun for me in 2026.My first lesson with Jason locked me in and got rid of my nervousness right from the start. Jason is kind, funny, and an incredible talent. In the first few minutes he identified exactly where my technique was off, and had various ways to help me relearn proper technique. We covered many vocal exercises that would become a routine, and he even sat there while I belted songs right in his face (Jason! If youre reading this, I am sorry! Haha)I think what I liked most about my lessons with Jason would be how easy it was to have a conversation with him, and how ok it was to mess up horribly in front of him. He made lessons fun, relaxing. He was there to help me and I can say for a fact he did. I started noticing my own improvement and when things clicked, it was so rewarding.I could come to Jason with questions on a song I would be performing at open mic, or with a band. Example, how to do a particular run in a song. Jason would figure it out in a minute, sing it to me, and then explain how to approach it (which is wild). If youre like me and want to get back into singing, improve your technique, or simply do something fun for you. Jason is your guy. I promise you wont regret it.

Noah, thank you so much for this incredibly thoughtful review! And for the record, absolutely no apology necessary for belting songs in my face. 😂
It has been such a pleasure watching your confidence and technique grow. One of my favorite parts of teaching is seeing that moment when something finally clicks—and then watching a student take that work out of the studio and actually use it in a performance. You’ve put in the work, asked great questions, and been willing to try things even when they felt unfamiliar.
I’m so glad the studio has been a place where you’ve felt comfortable experimenting, making mistakes, and having some fun along the way. Thank you for trusting me with your voice and for taking the time to write this. It truly means a lot. Keep singing!!

FAQs
What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I offer 30-, 45-, and 60-minute private voice lessons, both in person in Midtown Manhattan and virtually. Lesson length can be tailored to the singer’s age, experience level, and goals. I also offer discounted rates for students and select packages. Contact me through Thumbtack and I’ll be happy to recommend the best lesson option for you.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Every singer is different, so our first lesson begins with getting to know your voice, your experience, and your goals. We’ll sing, assess your current technique, and identify areas we can strengthen together. From there, I develop an individualized approach combining healthy classical vocal technique with repertoire that serves your interests—whether that’s musical theatre, classical singing, audition preparation, or simply becoming a stronger and more confident singer.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My approach is informed by more than 20 years of professional experience as an actor and singer, including performances with the Metropolitan Opera, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Staatsoper Berlin, Opéra National de Paris, and a Broadway First National Tour. I currently teach Classical Voice at Drew University and have spent years studying and applying classical vocal technique in professional performance settings.
